They would never have found the baby's body, wouldn't that lead to massive investigations, which would discover where the baby actually was? Wouldn't Justin be anxious to find the body?

Wouldn't Justin be questioning who in the hell called him away and why? Seeing as he twigged it was something sinister when he ran out of his office and it couldn't have been his wife as she was with him when he got the call and begged him not to go.

Wouldn't a post mortem have discovered traces of whatever was put into the milk to paralyse Kate?

i know it's a film and to suspend disbelief, but these things spoiled it for me as it was so unbelievable that they could have pulled it off. Even if the husband was too grief stricken to figure it out, surely there would be a huge search launched for the baby?

A. - There may have been a current that washed the backpack away, or perhaps fish or other animals may have eaten the cat's body, resulting in only an empty backpack.

B. - Justin very likely quit his job as he was moving away - he was far too distraught and grief stricken to concern himself with other matters.

C. - The post mortem would indeed have revealed what the milk was spiked with - which would have been the same substance in the pills the neighbours placed by the milk, making it all look like a suicide.
