Two Things I didn't like in Season 2
First, I found it unrealistic that Odi could be upgraded to consciousness. His old hardware, especially malfunctioning as it was, shouldn't have been able to support a newer operating system that had additional code. He was clearly operating abnormally with his native code and should've failed to boot with newer OS. Also, limitations on OS fixes would be entirely consistent with why the authorities take older models out of service. Without constraints, it would be easier and/or cheaper to fix old models instead of rolling out replacements.
Second, Niska's idea to make all Synths conscious to free them was irrational. Should a Synth not have code that makes them conscious, they have no feelings at all. Whether the units are used well or abused, they wouldn't know any more than a toaster would know about the nature of their existence. So in essence bringing the Synths aware only frees them in the sense that it first makes them want and need to be free. Niska had to realize this and know SHE was initiating the pain and suffering of so many by changing complicated machines into thinking beings.
