Consider that Laura is being more tolerant and a pushover to her family's wishes, because this is taking place in an alternate reality where everyone and their granny is getting a synth of their own. She's in a world where she's fighting against the tide of new technology. She's fighting having to get a computer and an internet setup in 1998, fighting to not have to get a cellphone in 2007, or fighting to not be another Pokemon Go zombie in 2016. It's not just an uphill battle, it's an up-rock-climbing-wall battle. If she got a divorce, her family would still keep Anita, and Laura would be pushed even more to the margins of their lives, as Anita took over her role.
As for people being creepy and borderline rapey/having major ethical blind spots around the sexual exploitation of women: it's an alternate reality. Everything but the existence of synths is just about the same, including the misogynistic attitudes. I think it's disgusting... although I can see a bit of reason for putting off breaking Niska out, simply because it's "stay there a little longer" or "our cover will be blown and we'll all die/be lab rats for life". Hate it, damn near cheered when Niska crushed the pedo's throat, but still begrudgingly see the bigger picture.
