The damaged synth Odi's storyline is so heartbreaking! (SPOILER)

his storyline last season where Dr. Millican's (William Hurt) character died leaving Odi lost/alone was so sad and now this new season has Mattie reviving him leaving him to figure things out for himself with tragic results. he was always such a sweet gentle character/synth. his "suicide" (and Mattie's upsetting reaction to his suicide) was really heartbreaking to me. why did Mattie revive him again? was it so see if the code (or whatever) to make synths sentient worked or not? i like Mattie but her total disregard for Odi was not kind or fair.

Odi totally stole my heart.

How was Mattie not respectful to him? Do you mean making him conscious in the first place? I think she just wants to help the synths become sentient rather than stay slaves.

I found it sad that she advised Odi not to speak to anyone if going out on a walk, lest someone freak out about his "otherness". He did end up disregarding this advice.

My hope is that his "suicide" will be reversed somehow, with him realizing that consciousness is about far more than experiencing pain and fear (in fact, pain and fear can only operate in the absence of consciousness). I would love it if he met Max... Max is kind like Odi, but wiser, and could help him deal with struggle.

Absolutely in love with Odi / Will Tudor's heartbreaking, nuanced performance!
His story in S1 was emotional enough, but S2 was beautifully tragic! I love the series and story, but I could seriously watch eight whole episodes of Odi!

this is not a spoiler Carol. Odi has been damaged since season 1. also i'd advise you to stay of the board until the show airs wherever you live.

reply

I just finished Season 1 and most of your post IS a spoiler. You've just told me--and everyone else--what happens to him. Guess what? That's a spoiler.
IMDB created the spoiler tags so that EVERYONE can be on these boards, not just selfish pricks like you.

i'll repeat myself, it's just a safer bet for you (and anyone else who hasn't seen season 2) to stay off the boards until you've seen it. i'm sorry my post spoiled stuff for you but just refrain from coming to the board until season 2 airs for you. i did that with any shows from Netflix since they release every ep from a season at once.

And I'll repeat myself--USE THE SPOILER CODE PROVIDED BY IMDB. THERE'S A REASON THEY CREATED IT.

Not everyone sees a show when it is aired. It would be ridiculous to stay off the boards until you do. Sometimes you just want to know what other people think of it without getting spoilers. It's just common decency to warn people.

reply

It's not considered a spoiler if the episode has aired. By your logic every post on every board on this site should look like this because there's always someone out there that hasn't seen something yet.

reply

He may be alive again given the events of the last episode with every synth being woken up.
The death of the Pete and how Karen goes from there is potentially more heartbreaking given she's been around for 13 years and suicidal and unable to end herself, then along comes someone she can be honest with and then dead. The child synth just seems like a way to avoid looking at how bleak her life has been and is.

I agree with an earlier comment, if Odi was introduced to Max. Max may be able to teach Odi on how to cope with his emotions and what he may wish to expect from life?

I have only come on this board now, as I have only just finished watching all 8 episodes.

I always assumed William Hurt's character was gay, and that Odi was programmed as being gay too.

But now that I think about it, synths wouldn't have been programmed in such ways - they'd simply be compliant with whatever their current human owner wanted?
