This was easily the best of the four movies.

... because of that hot ass James Maslow.

The first was pretty decent, the second was just ok, the third was crap and this fourth one was GREAT! Bart steals the show from start to finish. Maslow breathed all the life there was into this movie. I hope somehow from, um, Nickelodeon and Lifetime movies a star is born because I want to see more of him. I found myself rooting for Bart even though he's an absolutely horrible bastard. Very conflicting, effective performance.

Otherwise the other actors were once again bland. The actor playing Jory was good, too. The Cathy and Chris actors are soooo blah though. I'm sorry they weren't replaced after If There Be Thorns. Bland and crappy also were Cindy and Melodie.

And totally paraphrasing, but... [through gritted teeth] "There are so many whores under this roof I can barely breathe under the the weight of their sin." LMAO, I haven't heard such great delivery of dialogue in some time. You go, James Maslow. 

Maslow killed it. The best scene in the movie was when Bart throws the money at Chris in the kitchen. My God, Maslow did the damn thing. He is a great actor and I hope to see him in some big budget films too. Imagine what he can do if he's in a movie with established, big budget writers and directors.

I thought Sammi (the girl who played Cindy) did an excellent job. She wasn't bland at all. Her character could have been so OTT, but she knew when to show restraint. The actors who played Jory and Melodie were terrible! They are horrible actors and sorely miscast. Melodie looked so damn old too! Geez...

The actors who played Chris and Cathy were solid. Not amazing, but at least they can act. I wasn't cringing while watching their scenes.

Hopefully he will get his chance at some good roles! Independent or big budget. This was a very impressive start for him, even if Lifetime movies aren't very prestigious. He made it seem like a lot more with his performance.

I guess to me no one as a good as Maslow, not even close. But if I had a choose I didn't think the Jory actor was bad. He played a believable sympathetic character. I'll have to agree to disagree on Cindy, I thought she was overacting big time. 

And ok, maybe Chris and Cathy (whatever their real names are, ha) can act but they annoyed me. They came across very patronizing and stupid to me, as they did in the previous movie.

Cathy and Chris were really annoying. They weren't portrayed properly. The actors did fine. I liked Jason Lewis' (Chris) scenes with James. Jory had his moments but he wasn't consistant. That was my main problem.

James and Sammi (the girl who played Cindy) had good chemistry so that helped. I honestly believed that she gave a good performance. I liked how she played Cindy. I like her look too. Innocent and sweet looking, but sexy and hot too.

The Chris actor was definitely better than Cathy but, that's not saying much. I haven't read the books or seen any other adaptions of these so I'm not sure how the characters should have been but I can absolutely tell this end result is how they shouldn't have been, lol. 

They did have good chemistry and yes, she's a pretty girl. She just didn't deliver her lines well a few times for me, seemed to be forcing it, but especially compared to him no one was that amazing. He was just really good, perfect at the Jekyll/Hyde thing. Smarmy and smooth one second, totally insane and wretched the next.

In the book, Cathy is def more bitchy while Chris is calm, cool and collected. Cindy is supposed to be sexy, wild and spirited. I thought Sammi conveyed that. But of course Maslow is the star of the show.

Yes Maslow has branched from his Nickelodeon days and made a name for himself in this movie. There were times in the movie where I was like " omg James being a badass is über sexy but he (Bart) needs to get his inner demons under control". I cried at times, but the time the full waterworks came into play was when Bart almost drowns the baby and he just looked so physically upset. And then the whole scene with Bart and Cathy towards the end made me cry waterfalls as well because Cathy was gonna leave Bart behind so that he can change for the better and after Jory nearly choked Bart to death, I was crying as well. His cry of terror of his mother leaving him made me want to jump into the screen and console him. I was also sad when Chris died. I'm glad that Bart finally realized what was wrong and wanted to make everything right. I knew that him and Cindy would get together. All in all, very excellent movie and I'm glad that I finally got to see James shine as the star he was destined to be.

Kudos to James Maslow for stepping out of Nickelodeon's shadow and into his very own spotlight.

Agree and disagree; Yes, Maslow was terrific as Bart, and he certainly made the movie very enjoyable. And yes Cindy and Melodie were bland as hell, and I also thought they were cheap and common looking. And the guy who played Christopher SUCKED. However I totally disagree with your assessment of the series; "If There Be Thorns" was actually the best of the series; it was technically more well-made and more professionally filmed than the other movies. And boring Cathy and Christopher took a back seat and let little Psycho Boy Bart take over for a while. I thought "Petals On the Wind" was BY FAR the weakest movie, due to all the ridiculous changes they made from the book. Cutting out Dr. Sheffield was like removing the entire first half of the book, and adding that insipid love interest for Christopher was absurd and infuriating. Basically some hack rewrote the book. The other films were a lot of fun though. I still can't believe that this great book series was finally made into a film series.

All I remember about ITBT was Bart trying to drown Cindy. It just didn't capture my attention for some reason. Maybe the second is worse than I remember, I'll admit. I don't know anything about the books so I'm not sure how faithful they are, what got cut, added, etc. so I just go on how drawn in I am by the story and characters, so this one was my favorite. Mostly because of Bart. Ok, entirely because of him.

That's understandable. Sometimes one character can absolutely make a movie enjoyable. And Bart is definitely the most interesting person in the series. But that's why I found 'Thorns' so interesting; that's the movie where we see the beginning of Bart's story. It's the first film that concentrates on him. We get to see how he becomes such a messed up adult..I was fascinated.

Yeah, I should give credit to ITBT for that. Even though I didn't enjoy it that much, I did fully understand why Bart is the way he is in SOY because of it. It did give a good background on him and his insanity, and Maslow did such a good job portraying him as an adult that it worked out well.

Did you like Heather Graham in her role? I thought she was good in the first movie but after that I got pretty tired of her and didn't really buy her as that character after awhile. She annoyed me in ITBT... maybe that was the point though.

Yes, Heather Graham; she's gorgeous, but she is AWFUL in "Seeds of Yesterday." She seems very uncomfortable playing an "older woman." She came across as a little girl playing dress-up. And she had NO emotion in her voice..she sounded like she was reading a phone book aloud!

Agreed, she was very bad and annoying. Gaspy, out of breath sounding delivery of her lines and wasn't believable playing an older lady and weirdly bugging out her eyes. The makeup to make her look old wasn't that great either. She was great in the first one as the ditzy, selfish younger version of herself. Not good in Thorns though.

He did a good job, but this wasn't my favorite entry in the series. My favorite is still Flowers in the Attic. I enjoyed this movie though.

I agree. He was really good in this. My only gripe about this film was the absence of Joel but of course if we got Joel we wouldn't have had so much of Bart.
