I say a prequel like The Purge:Year One or something would be interesting.

Nobody knows what to expect and are off guard. And they can make it more action packed with brutal deaths for people thinking they can beg for their lives. I'd watch it!

That sounds good to me too, considering that the end of the movie is the woman being elected president that said she would put an end to the purge.

There's actually a Purge TV series coming soon (with creator James DeMonaco's full involvement), so that's likely going to be a time-period covered at some point during the show's run.
