Is there a second series???

Wonderful, slow burning feel-good comedy, brilliantly written and performed. Does anyone know if it's being renewed or whether Mackenzie Crook has written anymore?

reply

It has indeed been renewed!

Thanks, that just made my day!!! In an otherwise depressing world it has been a little ray of sunshine every week and I look forward to seeing them next year!

Thoroughly agree RhiJo. Wonderful series, it's been a real gem. Can't wait for it's return.

reply

After an iffy first episode it really did take off.

Its that man again!!

reply

It was indeed superb. One of the best TV series I've seen in a long time.

After finishing Season 1 on Netflix I was so hoping that there was more and I was pleasantly surprised that there is!! I fell in love this show so quickly. The first episode I wasn't sure but I kept watching mostly because of Mackenzie (had no idea he wrote and directed as well..though not at all surprised) and I ended up watching the whole season. Can't wait to see what happens to them in Season 2.

Thank you, your link didn't work but found the article easily, he is quickly becoming one of my favourite people, would love to have a pie and a pint with him. Thanks again.

Thanks for the link, worked fine, no problem. Just caught this show and enjoyed every minute of it. Look forward to a second series.

Mackenzie Crook's Detectorists (Production team Channel X North and Lola Entertainment/BBC Four) has been nominated for Best Scripted Comedy at the BAFTA TV Awards 2015, to be held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on 10th May! 🙌

Read my review of the series on this page ('Thank you so much for this, Mackenzie!'):

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4082744/reviews?start=10

My only disappointment is that none of the actors/actresses in this series were separately nominated for either best leading or supporting actor/actress, but there are only four nominations allowed for each category so the competition is very tough.

We were a bit slow in finding out about this over here in Illinois but I saw it referred to in an article about Ordinary Lies (which MCrook was in). Thank goodness for bittorrent! Me and my friends are knocked out by the wonderfulness of the series. We will be anxiously watching for the second series.

Crook and JOnes are great and I've liked Rachael Sterling since Boy Meets Girl. Aimee-Ffion Edwards is an arresting actor. I had just recently seen her in Wolf Hall and Peaky Blinders. (Also went back to see Luther series 2.) David Stern is a scream as Bishop.

I wish everyone in USA could see it. Truly brilliant.

Well Derek, I'm sure you'll be happy to know that the British Academy agrees with you because it won the BAFTA for Scripted Comedy in London tonight.

Here is an extract from an article in the Ipswich Star, credited to Lauren Everitt (10th May 2015):

A TV sitcom filmed in a historic Suffolk market town has scooped a prestigious Bafta gong.

Framlingham provided the backdrop for six-part BBC4 sitcom, Detectorists, which starred Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones.

And tonight, the show picked up the Bafta prize for Scripted Comedy, beating off competition from Harry and Paul’s Story of the Twos, Moone Boy and The Wrong Mans.

Written and directed by Crook, who also starred as wannabe archaeologist Andy, the action featured location after location of recognisable landscapes and venues from across the area, including the town’s Panorama gift shop.

... The show was also filmed in other parts of Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex.

i discovered the show on Acorn TV which i subscribe too. I watch it via my Roku. One of my favorite UK shows. Funny thing for me is that so many elements of the show are similar experienced to me as I've been a Detectorist for 20+ years in the States.

I am doubly happy now knowing the show is going to have a 2nd season!

I am really looking forward to the second series. It is so refreshing. Excellent actors with a really good script.

There has been a dearth of good comedy shows for quite a few years. So often they have been too crude or stupid without being funny or interesting enough to make it worth overlooking that for me. Now I'm seeing a real change. Not just the Detectorists but also new show Boy Meets Girl, about someone who is transgender. Also Puppy Love although a little daft at times has a good heart and certainly a refreshingly different storyline.
