From an actual Metal detectorist's opinion: this show is wonderful.
I am in the hobby and do this in my spare time. They have really done their homework in researching everything from the equipment, method of searching and digging, personalities of the finders, the clubs... Shown the strange world of it. But then they have also managed to include such a wonderful cast of characters that left me feeling excited, sad, aching, and hopeful all the way through.
In can be a lonely hobby. If you have ever tried metal detecting you do indeed find aluminum pull tabs and discard toys or loose change. You often leave with a pile of rubbish in your pockets and change rarely exceeding a dollar. They often read as something valuable or you will dig up something reading as trash and it might be silver. ( Especially the last sequence as objects above a target can mess up readings below and he made a rookie mistake in not double checking the hole!) It also shows the beautiful side of being outdoors in open spaces with nature and imagining riches and the past. It can be a great way to unwind and get away from things. Even if you just find rusty bits and dirty change the hobby keeps you going.
Just a beautiful series and I am saying this as a 32 year old male who just had to come and say so. And I normally have no taste for these type of shows. Well done.
