in the commentary the director says the band are basically hardcore punk. From what I understand that scene is anti authoritarian and anti police. the band is shown to be a little dodgy with its petrol theft.
so why when they see the murder scene and are under attack in the green room, why do they want to call the police?
Because they knew right away that because he witnessed a murder that they would kill them as well. Calling the cops would save their lives.
I'm sure they're shown to be desperate rather than dodgy. And even if they were, if their level of dodgy is siphoning petrol out of cars then I think that assuming that they wouldn't react how they did to finding a girl freshly murdered is a bit of a leap.
