I had no idea.
I had no idea they were making this into a show
If it's on any channel I can get, I'm certainly watching it.
I'm surprised it isn't being marketed more. I haven't seen a thing about it.

This has already been made into a show, in 2010, starring Stephen Mangan as Dirk. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2303367/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm
shareI'll never understand why that series didn't work. It was really good. I'm going to try to watch this one with an open mind but it won't be easy, especially since the actors don't seem right this time.
shareIf this thread is anything to go by, it's because no one knew about it.
I think british productions struggle in general. less of a market for them, less funding. probably only the best received really lasts. just look at how many brits come to hollwood.
if you don't have anything nice to say ...you're probably a butthole
Are you kidding? Those stupid ads air over and over again on repeat all day long. I just want this stupid show to premier so I don't have to see the stupid ads three times in a row during every commercial break.

I love Adams as a writer, but like Hitchhiker's Guide, I think his work just doesn't translate to the screen well. It's just too absurd maybe? Dirk Gently books have always been a confusing mess of things going on. And on the screen it is almost overwhelming.
shareI prefer the Dirk Gently books to the hitchhiker's guide. Specially the first book which I think is on a whole other level than Hitcher's guide. That said, I enjoy all of Douglas Adams books. But ye, no translation to film or tv has ever really made the books justice.
shareI think the main problem in adapting Adams novels is that much of the humor comes from the deadpan humor added into the narration itself along with how the narration mixes with the action being presented. Since the humor is often not completely rooted in the events and dialogue being presented (even though some is) much of the tone and best gags get missed unless something is done to shoehorn the references in.
