Does anyone else think that this a complete mess?

I'm all for complex plots and quirky characters but for some reason then this isn't doing anything for me.
a) It's not very funny.
b) It's characters are either poorly written or badly acted, I don't know which.
c) After three episodes I don't care about anyone, particularly.
d) Yes I know that you don't care what I think, but I do.

There's just something wrong with it since it seems incoherent and rambling with none of the wit and inventiveness you'd expect from something with Adams' name attached to it (albeit loosely), so maybe I just feel conned.

Maybe after episode 4 then it'll start to come together but I'm not sure that the writers know what they're doing, which is a shame.

The series was filmed with all of your issues expected. I watched an interview with the head producer and writer, he said that it is meant to be crazy and confusing, but that all the questions that we will have, will be answered throughout the season.

reply

I watched the finale... that entire universe should have imploded a million times faster than the speed of light, and simultaneously exploded at the same velocity, from the sheer number of temporal paradoxes produced.

They didn't even bother trying to make sense of any of it.

reply

What paradoxes? As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the few works of fiction to get time travel right.

reply

This, Bill and Ted(1+2), the original Terminator and 12 Monkeys.

There are exactly 0 paradoxes in this series. Your confusion stems from a belief that there's only one kind of time travel(Back to the Future style). But this is a self consistent version of time travel. Where everything happens the way it always happened.

You also hilariously misrepresent various concepts. Suffice it to say, it makes perfect sense even if you're incapable of wrapping your head around it. Even after they literally explained it to the audience.

I love this show. It must not be your cup of tea, and that is okay.

Perfect reply...I said basically the same thing, then say this...If only everyone on the internet was so polite. Right! Lol. This is my new favorite series. I love it it so much I already miss it and I'm just finishing ep 5,so one behind and I'm neurotic about it being over, .lol..

reply

Same here!!

reply

Couldn't agree more. I can to write the same thing. Horrible writing. Poor characters. Nothing to do with the original source material. The cast is wrong. I think only wood acts properly. The rest is a mess. It looks like one of these Nickelodeon shows for kids. Only one of the lesser ones.

reply

Only seen the first episode, but yes there were moments where I sat back and said this has to be for 8year old kids. Then the crazy killer comes out just 1 scene later. So far - not 1 part was funny :(

And yes Wood is the lone bright spot so far

reply

This is a right dog's dinner. It veers too much between slapstick and unhumorous violence for me. It would have sat better if we didn't have the Assassin killing people because, well, that's what she does.

The actor playing Gently; I really hope he was directed to ham it up like that. He came across as poor man's Chevy Chase which is a low enough bar to aim for.

There were no redeemable qualities to this programme and as for the comedy aspect; the last I looked comedy was supposed to be funny. This was a second rate student production at best.

Avoid.

reply

No, it's just you. This is an excellent series.

I like it.

The show is supposed to be a "mess". Some people enjoy messes, some don't. And that's okay.

reply

Yes, I've seen those adults who have a diaper fetish...

reply

Indeed. As the characters are all "leaves in the stream of creation." They're all along for the ride that the universe is taking them on. The more they resist, the weirder things get as the universe tries to force them along their path.

I went into this show expecting an insane cluster-**ck. I was not disappointed, and I am loving it.

I, too, enjoy the chaos of this show. I also like the chaos of Douglas Adams, in general. I am partial to Terry Pratchett, as well. I have found this show to be a highlight in my viewing.

reply

To each his own...This is pure genius and is suppose to be chaotic. The characters are brilliant and the acting so tight is is remarkable. If you don't like something,if it irritates you,it is legitimate not to like or enjoy it. But the writers know exactly,EXACTLY what they are doing.

One thing to remember...and I'm not trying to convince to you enjoy something you don't,..you get to like what you Like, but part of the chaos we feel is because that is what the characters,at least the "human ones" are experiencing. The writing, direction, acting is so good we are feeling the lack of control, the chaotic world they are. But it will begging to make sense within its own context. We'll begin to see it when they do.

This isn't a simple network procedural. Bones,NCIS,name one. This is much more than that. But you sill don't have to like it. Not everything is for everyone. And that is ok.. Cheers!

reply

Except now that the finale has aired... ugh.

This was time travel handled in the laziest possible manner. I was almost expecting, since this is BBC, for one of the recent Doctors to dematerialize the TARDIS suddenly, run out, grab the main characters by the collar and shake them while screaming, "WHAT THE BLOODY HELL ARE YOU IDIOTS DOING?!?!"

As others have noted, it's like a Nickelodeon-level time-travel episode of one of their moronic shows.
