A poor mans Doctor Who

This show is a complicated mess, With time travel, aliens and talking dogs. I dont know what to think of it after two episodes. So confusing all of it.

After having watched the full 8 episodes I'd say it's really much better than Doctor Who has ever managed to be as a whole. It is confusing at first, but by episode four you get a feel for it, and it's all tied up pretty well by the end.

I mean some of those Dr Who episodes are ruddy awful, especially after Davies et all left the team and that Matt smith guy came in. Though they were occasionally outstanding. You'd have to watch half a dozen crap ones in between the good ones though.

This is more consistent, is pseudo-Dirk.

Christ some of the goddamn awful matt smith doctor who xmas specials I have sat through, I never seen such bad tv masquerading as a "special", as if they were directed by a team of chimps, I kid u not.

As its own writers have admitted, Doctor Who has to spoonfeed its audience. Dirk Gently requires viewers to pay attention, but that makes it a better show.

reply

Geez, I mean, Doctor Who is already a poor man's Doctor Who. The low budget makes for some hilarious watching. If anything Doctor Who is a bit of a poor man's Dirk Gently.

Though I will say the fellow who plays Dirk is a bit of a poor man's Matt Smith. But that zany oddball vaguely irritating protagonist thing seems to be a bit of a hit at the moment, and I definitely warmed to Dirk (and the excellent acting) as the series went on.

I'll have to agree with the general sentiment on here that this is actually better than Doctor Who... but the comparison is somewhat apt, seeing as how the original book was a rewritten Doctor Who script.

someone mentioned it finally!

I was trying to describe it to a friend and came up with 'Doctor Who with swearing'.

reply

Well you could treat lime Dr Who which has far more plot holes and stupid plot holes and just ignore all logic as you must with Dr Who and instead of going gee Dr Who saved the universe again this episode, say that was really enjoyable.

My pea tastes like toast

Doctor Who? Seriously?
While mildly entertaining, Who has more shortcomings than actual hits.
There are some species, scenes and characters which are actually interesting, the rest is just mediocre and badly produced
