The Handmaiden wasn't selected by the Korean Film Council. They instead submitted The Age of Shadows, which didn't make it onto the Academy's December shortlist and thus won't be nominated.

Is it just me, or does the Korean Film Council almost always avoid the best choices for Oscar consideration?
