Why didnt Dan tell the guys the money bag was on the kitchen counter?

So,

When Dan got there and the bad ties tied him up, why didnt he tell the guys the money was in the grocery bag on the kitchen counter? Did Dan not see it there? Or was it all happening too fast for him to notice it?

That was odd. The bag being there was probably a goof and wasnt meant to be there. That or his love for her was so large he didnt want her to be robbed.
