Any theories about the ending? Spoilers!

I just binge watched this all weekend with my wife. It looked like the son woke up for a few seconds and then died... Is that what everyone else heard?

He didn't "wake up". His body, when removed from the ventilator, started respiration on its own, which is not indicative of higher brain function. After the cut to credits, the monitor alarm sounded briefly, which was probably due to the heart, but we may never learn what happened after that. His life is in Amazon's hands.

telling the truth is a revolutionary act."
George Orwell
I think he woke up. They unplugged the heart sensor, which gave flat beep.
IMO If they show the son is alive, that will be the most satisfying season finale.
I'd like to go with that option too!
shareSame here I think the breathing was the start of him waking up. Too much joy shown from everyone in the room for him to just flatline. Will have to see what Amazon does.
shareHis eyes began flickering too. I'm certainly no expert on comas but if the brain stem is gone then it's gone along with all the functions. I don't think REM comes back into it. And series 2 has been picked up so hopefully we'll get a satisfactory ending.

If Amazon renews it, he'll live. If they don't, he's dead.
shareNot necessarily, don't forget that Tess is pregnant with (probably) his kid. They might turn around and make out that's what God/pj meant all along, especially if it's a boy.
shareGoodness, hadn't thought about that... but good point. Especially after what Crystal said about only being able to have one. Certainly doesn't mean it'll stop at one for Pernell.
shareWrong.
Season 2 could easily, and probably will, involve 1) the son dying, and 2) the judge going to jail. This easily continues with the "faith in God" storyline.
Remember that the judge is supposed to sacrifice his son, so in all likelihood, the son died.
Made me think of what happens in hospital dramas where the next thing that happens is the doctor yelling for a crash cart, unless the family says don't bother....or Amazon pulls the plug.
shareI don't think it matters if he woke up or rallied before he died as happens. What I see is that we watched this series full of obvious facts pointing to Parnell's mental breakdown and a corrupt church and yet we were foolish enough to think, down to the last moment, that a truly impossible miracle would occur. The end was about the viewer believing - even for a moment - that God was speaking to Parnell.
shareThere are some weird coincidences that happen which are not possible unless it was divine intervention be it god or ghosts or precognition.. From nothing he found out who raped jocyline after the cops spent 6 months without a clue. After which he found the accomplish to the guy who stole the book.. After which he found the book! And later his wife found the thief who ordered it all.. Heck sure wish I had a guardian angel like that. For that matter we had no idea what was even going on well past the half way point.
shareHe woke up I hope.
Lose the Game!!!!!!!
That is what I heard too. When he woke up and breathed on his own, I thought he was alive, but then I heard the flat line alarm and I assumed that he died. But maybe the doctor just disconnected the monitor and that is what triggered the flat line alarm. Hopefully there will be a season two and we can find out!
shareOf course we don't know what Amazon will do or how they will work the story. But, I heard a flat line when it went to credits...implying he passed.
