Glad to have FTN back after a week off! Very intense episode true to form for this show. Interesting twist though instead of just being insane there are drugs involved as well.
The episode was very vague about location. Just somewhere in a California beach town 300 yards from the ocean. If anyone knows the real life case this is based on, please let us know.

I think the OP was talking about the Kate/Donna episode, not the Grimes?
I too was wondering where and the reference to Donna's home/family state of MN-as I live in Minnesota.
They had the name "KATE" in quotes so possibly not real names? And this is one of the few they didn't use any last names or city name.

Yes, Kate not her real name, and I think Donna wasn't a real name either. And her voice was a narrator reading her words apparently...in fact, I think the image of Kate was just a reenactment, so I don't think she was even on camera.
Really good episode -- not as gripping as some but made memorable by the gruesome but awesome twist, almost no details spared. I'd love to read more about it too.
