Makes me so happy I don't have any neighbors. I love not having another house in sight. Sure it sucks when I realize I've ran out of sugar or need an egg in the middle of cooking something and I can't just run next door and ask a neighbor to borrow it but I will take that over neighbor problems anyday.

LOL trust me people don't really borrow eggs and sugar, I grew up in the same house most of my life and the only thing we borrowed from one of our neighbors is a ladder so we could get our cat off the roof.

OF COURSE that happens! I have done it MANY times over my years and have also reciprocated. An egg as recently as last December.

I also had a neighbor years that would go house to house to bum a cigarette (to hide from her husband who she didn't want to know she had an occasional cigarette- she was too funny and quite a character...And she only did it maybe 3-4 times)

Damn really? Must be a suburb or country thing. It just sounds stupid to me, to borrow an egg, no offense

I think it's more of a "mom" thing. Sometimes it's easier to borrow from neighbor than to pack the kids up and go out in the snow or at night when all you need is a couple eggs or sugar.

I have done it for lemon juice. I thought I had "realemon" (juice in little yellow plastic lemon) and it wasn't until I assembled the entire recipe and realized it was empty. Ran next door and she was a able to give me a couple fresh lemons. It does happen 

Just curious, do you return that sugar or egg or lemon? Not that I'd ask for it back, but I always thought it was funny how people used the word "borrow" for that lol.

reply

I don't know I guess, I know I don't recall my mom ever doing it except like I said the time we had to borrow the ladder and then of course we paid one of our neighbor's sons to cut our grass during the spring and summer months but that was it, but to each their own I suppose.

It's funny how different people have such different likes/dislikes! Personally, I would STRONGLY dislike living in the middle of nowhere. Really, I'd hate it. Oh, I like my space, but I have a nice big yard for that--a big yard in the suburbs. No way would I live on a property that was huge and had no one else living within thousands of feet or yards. I'd find it creepy and lonely.
