Trying to Google this story to learn more but this is the biggest challenge so far. This one is purposely anonymous from the beginning. They don't even give the state it happened in and the only clue to the town is that it is one in transition that is up and coming. Not much help.
Most all of the individuals interviewed in the episode are first name only, however, the reporter's full name was given and I was able to determine he reported for the Pittsburgh PA area. So that at least gives some idea.
In any case what a sad story. Becky even offered to buy the house and help him out and all he could repay her with was hate and murder. The only comforting thing from this episode is that taxpayers are not footing the bill for his housing and upkeep as he took the coward's way out.
I thought that it was Pittsburgh. I live 30 miles away and it certainly looked like the locale. Also, Cyril Wecht is their coroner. Just awful what happened.
Yeah I was pretty pissed that they omit local information. I understand names and faces but when you even omit locations it makes me wonder if the story is real.
Anyway, as far as the story it was pretty sad. He was man enough to do the crime but didn't want to do the time.
It was a sad case. Granted I wouldn't have purchased part of an attached property anyway but that's the point. It shouldn't have even gotten to this point at all. That guy was really weird.

This is why I don't think I could ever buy a duplex. You're basically living under the same roof as your neighbor, with only a wall separating you. You are entirely at their mercy when it comes maintaining your own property. (Their trash bringing in vermin, their leaky roof ruining your ceilings, for example.) And there's no way you can sell to get away from them; they've lowered your property value into the negative.
The only comforting thing from this episode is that taxpayers are not footing the bill for his housing and upkeep as he took the coward's way out.
It always makes me angry when a murderer commits suicide. It's taking the easy way out, afraid to face the judgement one so easily exacted on his/her victim.

I feel the same way. The only way I WOULD own a duplex is if I owned the ENTIRE building. So I could live in one side and rent out the other, but be in control of it in its entirety. I definitely would not buy anything that's physically attached to another structure that I don't own!
