Nightmare next door ; tonight's new EP

I'm not gonna lie, I think the lady whose husband got shot was a complete liar....and seemed to like to start cr@p, getting her neighbors' kids arrested, saying he (this scrawny teenager) pushed her 250+ husband at a restaurant. I mean, I usually don't side on this show too much except for Lake of Madness episode but I just found it funny that the ones constantly calling the cops and getting restraining orders are the ones who carry a sidearm around constantly and looked 6'2" 250 at least on the show...I'm call BS. In my experience, the ones that call the cops are most often the same ones who start and push the BS to the next level, and then cry wolf.

reply

Yeah, I hear ya. She was a little $h!t disturber. What was the most frustrating to me was that everyone knew that Todd (the man who was shot) walked around with a gun on his hip. If I saw him reaching to his hip, I'd think he was going for his gun as well. But no, in this case it just happened to be his cell phone. It seems that everyone had a good reason to believe he could have been reaching for his gun, since he was known to carry it at all times. I can see why Neal would argue that he believed Todd was armed.

Also, what did Todd and his wife expect from their neighbours when they'd just gotten their son arrested? You bet they're gonna be mad!

I don't think Neal was in the right to run outside with a gun as his wife was shouting, and open fire on a clearly unarmed woman. I do think he probably saw Todd as an armed threat though.

reply

Exactly, you just got their son arrested for some alleged "threats" and you got a restraining order on them previously...I mean, I hate to say it but be careful what you wish for! Just in her comments, and the way she said things, and her comments after he was convinced...in my experience, I know the type. They cry wolf. They love to start $h!t, and it makes them feel good to be the "victim."

You want to seriously tell me she was scared to death of some teenager who "allegedly" threatened to burn their house down? Meanwhile her husband goes around toting a gun on his side 99% of the time.

In my one experience with a neighbor/nightmare situation, we all had to go to court...long story short the BS case based on lies was thrown out and the elderly Judge said in front of everybody "it's been in my experience that more often than not the people making these allegations are WORSE than the people they are accusing." The neighbors were LIVID. MAD. They showed their true colors. They even were threatening us as they walked out of the court. And one of us said to a deputy, "he just threatend us" he did NOTHING. And we did that to prove a point...

Word of advice. Where I live there's a saying. "The first that calls the cops win." In other words, whomever calls the cops and makes the allegations FIRST has the cops on their side. Kinda like in this episode. You noticed how they treated the other neighbors? I could call the cops and make up any stupid story and they'll believe it...and will take your story as the golden truth. I HATE calling the cops, but I have advised prople in certain situations, you need to call the cops before they do. Or you'll be screwed.

I just know a liar when I see one and that lady was a *beep* starter. And it got her husband killed.

reply

Regarding the incident where the son pushed the grown man, there had to have been witnesses at the restaurant. I'd be interested in what they had to say. Also, I never believe all of what anyone says on the show. I agree that the woman who kept calling the cops was probably the bigger liar, though. Her husband owned 10 guns, according to the reporter, and I would have assumed he had a gun, too. And something else that's completely OT, why do they always show the reenactments in much nicer neighborhoods than where the people actually lived? They showed the house where the Stevens lived and it was a bit trashy. That's the case with most of the episodes. These families are shown as middle to upper middle class and they're actually lower middle class. Nothing wrong with it, I grew up lower middle class, but it's incredibly misleading.

reply

I too, would have liked more details...I seriously doubt she sat there being Mrs. Nice Woman and didn't say a thing and he went over there without provocation. Just my OP...

That's a good way to put it...I just think they're all lying to a degree but she was the biggest liar of them all.

As for filming, I think the crews pick better neighborhoods for a number of reasons. I've noticed that too...I've thought "there's no way these people live in a house even this nice" on several episodes. Including one that was about 15 miles from me. It was in New Orleans East...a TOTAL *beep* and they made it look like the suburbs. There are cars on blocks out there, literally dead bodies sometimes (watch the first 48) and just total lack of pride in their Section 8 homes. Sure looked nice on that episode, though! Interior and Exterior...

reply

I think that both sides are liars. One side seemed to be a rich condescending b**** and family and the other one as you said was one who liked to stir and start s****.

reply

I actually got the opposite impression. Not that both women weren't lying, but that the reason the whole situation escalated was because of Paula and Neal.

I don't doubt for one minute that Todd and Jenny weren't fighting out in the front yard. They struck me as a couple who would do that. However, I think it was wrong for Paula to forbid her son to be friends with Ryan. She could've just allowed them to hang out at her house, if she was truly afraid Todd might fly of the handle at Jake. Poor kid probably could've used the escape. Then there was the deer incident. It was crazy of Neal to blame his Lyme disease on the neighbors, even if they were inadvertently causing the deer to wander through other yards. Where there are animals, there are ticks. It's not like you can tell a wild animal where it can and can't go, or what it can and can't eat. It was unfortunate, but the other couple were not to blame. Neither were they to blame for Neal getting fired from his job. These people, Neal and Paula, were not very big on taking responsibility for their actions or emotions.

Then there were the mutilated animals. I fully believe the neighbors' kids were responsible for that. Animals don't just die en masse in one person's yard like that. Just like with the restaurant scene, there HAD to be witnesses to this stuff actually happening. Neighbors had to see the dead animals; patrons had to see the confrontation at the restaurant. However, like I said, I have NO DOUBT that the events were exaggerated by Jenny. And I fully believe both women (and the daughter) were lying in their versions of the story. I mean, Neal lied to the police about his gun. And please, OF COURSE his wife knew he had one. Her excuse was that he doesn't leave it lying out, so she forgot he had one. Really? Seems like being asked if there was a gun in the house MIGHT jog her memory. Then she lied again when asked where her son was when the police came to arrest him. If he had done nothing wrong, why hide?

This is probably the first episode where I really didn't feel sympathetic to either side.

reply

For sure, both sides are lying (they always are)...I always remember what my mom told me years ago "there are two sides two every story and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle."

So. I'm not saying the one family didn't do anything wrong, In my gut I just feel she is the biggest BS'er. I can read them a mile away, plus the things she said she sure acted like she was just SO scared she had to call the police....like they never did any similar behavior.....yeah, right. I wish they could all take lie detector tests. I just got the feeling she liked it. You don't get your neighbor's kid arrested and expect everything to go back to normal. You may hope it will but trust me, it's not...and she knew it.

So, I'm really not taking sides as much as I'm calling out an obvious shut starter. I don't really take sides as I know they're all fruggin lying.

reply

i agree with you. i'm sure both sides painted the events to cast themselves in a slightly better light than they were, but when came on this board i was shocked how many people thought jenny was the bigger liar. i mean, maybe she is and without proof we are all entitled to our opinions, but i definitely felt like paula and her daughter were stretching the truth to play the victims and justify neal's actions. as for diner witnesses, i would assume that before issuing an arrest warrant the police would have questioned them. it's pretty rare for an arrest to be immediate in a he said/she said. jenny may not have been as nice in that situation as she said, but i'm guessing the son really did lay his hands on todd.

reply

I have a question. Can Lyme disease affect your brain? Because it seemed the guy started to really get irrational after he got Lyme disease.

reply

Yes! It can cause all sorts of psychological changes, especially if the disease goes untreated for awhile. It's possible, judging by the severity of Neal's symptoms, that he could've even been infected long before he was actually diagnosed.

I hadn't considered his increasing paranoia and anger issues to be Lyme related, but they definitely could have been. Good point, rosemei.

Was it ever said what happened with the son's charges?

reply

Nope. Probably because she was lying. I'm not taking sides, but she was a Grade-A *beep* of a teenager sitting next to a 250 pound husband with a firearm 24/7....sure, sure....

They're all liars to a degree.

reply

The man was obviously disturbed, but it seemed to me that the female neighbor loved to stir the pot. I'm sure they both antagonized that guy until he snapped... he belongs in prison, but sometimes you just leave crazy people alone.

reply

My sentiments, exactly. I'd also love to know the truth about the restaurant incident. Around here, you can basically make an allegation that someone threatened you and they'll take that person to jail. I doubt she was just sitting there with her husband and one or both of them didn't say something loudly, stare at them, or something...and the whole thing was the kids fault. It just looks strange, you have this woman with this older, quite large husband who carries a firearm 24/7 and she calls the cops because a teenager supposedly threatened her and they're "scared for their lives." It just shows to me the mentality of these people, like it or not, they are your neighbors and you have to live close to them. They couldn't have possibly thought getting him would make things better. I don't know what transpired in that restaurant, but the real story is probably somewhere in the middle. I wish al, the people on the show had to take polygraph tests...it would make it more interesting IMHO.
