I think they put too much into the show

There is so much that I do not understand about the show. I think that is because they put so much into the stories that they jump around and I cannot keep it all straight. Many shows are like that but I wish they would not do it with this series. It is difficult for me to keep track of who is who. It is not so much fun to watch.

I haven't found it difficult to keep track of what's going on. Are you by any chance multitasking while you watch?

reply

Opinions of whether to multitask while watching TV will distract this discussion. The important thing is that there is too much going on in the show to make it as enjoyable as the Good Witch was originally.

reply

Everyone has their own opinion. Most of the complaints that I've heard about the show is that it's too slow and there's not ENOUGH going on! You can't please everyone, I guess...

reply

How will it distract from the discussion? It was just a question. I was just looking for a possible explanation. Again, I don't find this show to be difficult to follow in the slightest.

reply

It is extremely common for people to criticize other people in these discussions. If those comments are not representative of the majority of viewers then it is unfortunate that the discussions are biased.

I am not attempting to convince anyone of anything they do not already think. I am attempting to let the writers and producers understand the problem if the problem I am describing exists. If I am the only person that thinks the problem exists then everyone should ignore me. Unfortunately most people that become frustrated with the show will just stop watching, without explaining why they stop.

My comments are for the writers and producers. If people agree then it would help the writers and producers to know that.

You are entitle to an opinion but it is not productive for any of us to criticize another person's opinion. People are different and should not be criticized for being different.

You are sadly mistaken on 2 points.

1) I was not criticizing. I was asking a question. I asked if you were multitasking while watching the show. If so that could be the problem.

2) If you want to comment to the writers and producers, write to the writers and producers. You aren't likely to reach them here.

reply

Look at what you said before the question. In other environments, things would be different but in this environment it is very common for people to twist everything around. You (in your first sentence before the question) criticized my opinion, then asked a question that they type of question that usually is intended to criticize further. As I said, whether I multitask or not is not relevant and the question is much more likely to be intended to make trouble. I won't respond any further on the subject.

reply

Yes, I looked at what I said. Others have also said they don't find it difficult to follow. Were they criticizing or just expressing their opinion? I was doing nothing more than trying to help you figure out why you were having a difficult time following this show. Whether or not you are multitasking is a highly relevant question as it is could be one reason you are having difficulty. Had I immediately jumped to the other possibility, then yes, I would have been criticizing.

"Opinions of whether to multitask while watching TV will distract this discussion."

I don't understand this.

"The important thing is that there is too much going on in the show to make it as enjoyable as the Good Witch was originally."

I don't think there's too much going on.On the contrary, far from it. I think the combination of plot elements is just perfect. I don't mean to sound like a jerk towards the writers but this show is perfectly simple and doesn't force you to think too hard.

This show is not what I'd call complicated as shows go. What is confusing you?

reply

some people might think that something is complicated, you might not....

everyone is different

I don't watch the show, I don't get it....the station

and yes I'm on the computer a lot, or reading when I watch a show...some shows I totally get, while others I do not...so I can multitask.......and completely follow along on particular shows, but not all of them...

i'll get back to this in a bit....W the station that's been giving us the movies is supposed to start to show it, when I can't remember, but soon..

I just hope that they don't do it like their other series.....they have a tendency not to stick to them...in the long run

If I understood the OP right, I think what he/she is trying to say is that this show doesn't focus on one subject or 2 in one episode, they keep jumping from a story to an other with each character on screen, with tha main lady and her step daughter , the sister the doctor the mayor ... each character has a story that could be totally different from the others which could cause some viewers to lose track of what's going on.

I think the problem here is not the show itself but the types of shows the OP likes, this show is clearly more serialized than procedural, procedural shows are easy to follow because it usually adresses one or two stories in an episode.
But to be honest I don't think this show is complicated if you wanna see a complicated show try watch Legends season 2 LOL.

I like shows like this generally. I liked Parenthood. I liked the first two seasons of Switched At Birth, but then the writers ran out of good material and did some crazy things in the desperation. I like Fosters. I liked The O.C. I don't feel as lost about those shows as I do for The Good Witch.

As for "focus on one subject or 2 in one episode", that is typical of all those shows and many more, not just the Good Witch.

As for "serialized" and "procedural", the terms I would use is continuity and independent. Yes, for some shows, each episode is relatively independent of each other. For other shows there is a lot of continuity.

Nearly 40 years ago I complained that TV shows have no continuity. In one episode of a show, there might be no one in a city that knows who the super-hero is. In another episode, thousands of people show up to celebrate the super-hero. No continuity. Back then, people defended the lack of continuity by saying that no one wants continuity, that people want to turn their brains off and be entertained. I think that TV shows have now swung too far in the other direction, too much continuity (in my opinion) and people are defending the current amount of continuity. And they all insist they are right.

I'm totally with u bro :), too much continuity could cause the viewer to be bored especially if they keep dragging a story too long, I myself likes when a show balance between the "serialized" and "procedural" aspects.

reply

Yes, some shows give us just a little bit of something (the same thing except in pieces) in every episode. Sometimes they do that too much.

reply

There is so much that I do not understand about the show.

What aspects of the show's story line are you not understanding? I've seen every 'made for TV movie' and every series episode.

reply

I think I agree with the original OP. It's not that I don't understand what's going on but a lot is going on. For example the May 1 episode.

1. Cassie, Sam, Ryan, John relationships.
2. Sam, Nick, Linda relationship
3. Stephanie, mother, boyfriend story
4. Grace & Sam driving lesson story
5. Brandon & Tara babysitting
6. Sam's new patient
7. Mrs. Tinsdale's son returning home
8. Abigail's flower shop
9. New guy with the scarf

All this on one episode! No wonder Grandpa & Lori weren't on the episode. There wasn't room for them!

I kept track of the "scenes" or whatever you call them in the episode 5/8/2016 "The Trouble With Love" of the first 13 minutes, prior to the first commercial. There were a totall of 13 scenes (in the 13 minutes), most of witch were about a minute long. There were 2 that were about 2 minutes long but most were only about a minute, the last seven were less than a minute long. That is why I have gotten the impression they jump around too much. Assuming that my small research is indicative of all episodes, then they sure do jump around a lot. The writers seem to have an attention deficit disorder.
