Why do British production companies hire the most talentless American actresses?

A shocking number of American roles go to British actors and actresses these days, but they are the cream of the crop, yet British companies always seem to hire these awful American actresses who can't do an accent to save their lives. And very rarely hire male American actors.

It use to be Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson, I don't think much of the former, but the latter is or was beautiful, but a pretty shitty actress who can't do accent to save her life now it's Elle Fanning, who isn't even attractive. I'm wondering if the casting couch has been in play.

I think money's the only factor in play these days and Elle Fanning is affordable. The British don't have much money for the arts left and tend to hire cheap American actors hoping that this will bring them a profit in the US market.

No one in America is seeing a film because Elle Fanning is in it. I think they should be focusing on the British audience in a film like this and the kind of films I'm talking about.

And if that's the case, then hire good actresses at least, not the same people bad ones over and over again.

Good actors cost money. There's no way on Earth that an independent production company can hire Anne Hathaway or Scarlett Johansson or anyone of their ilk.

Also, lowest common denominator American audiences ARE more likely to watch a Mary Shelley film starring an actress they at least know (not to mention that the target demographic of this movie would probably know of Elle Fanning) than one starring a great but little known British actress like, say, Florence Pugh. It is the same principal European production companies employed in the 70s which is how, for instance, Tisa Farrow and Ian McCulloch wound up starring in Lucio Fulci's "Zombi" or why a large number of Giallo films have an American tourist as the lead character.

Hey, spastic ... if you're going to go low enough to complain that an actress is unattractive, you can't also complain that she's using the casting couch! LOL

I always think the reverse. Why do so many British and Australian actors get American roles. I wouldn't mind so much if they were mostly good. They aren't.
