Another action movie with 3 bad reviews?

Even Logan, which was a pretty damn good action movie, had 22 bad reviews. Yet Baby Driver, which looks like it's this close to being direct-to-DVD, gets only 3?

Who's gullible enough to still think critics are honest?

reply

I really don't need to check out what critics say in advance anymore; I can pretty much tell from a film's trailer what to expect from the whole feature...

This is one of those Crime movies that treat the subject like it's all fun and games. I'm not 12 years-old anymore so I don't enjoy these types of films.

reply

I take it you haven't seen the movie because that's not what its like in the slightest, maybe the first act but the last act is pretty the exact opposite of making this stuff out to be fun and games

reply

Well then it will be a pleasant surprise when I watch it 3 months or so from now on cable or disc. But what's shown in the trailer was not enough to make me want to spend $ on this in the theater.

reply

Who's paranoid enough to still think critics are taking bribes?

Baby Driver is an excellent film, expertly directed and edited with terrific performances across the board. The critical response is perfectly reasonable.

reply

It had some flaws though. It had a lot of pacing problems. The first robbery was boring. I got sick of watching Baby dancing all the time and the choreography looked awkward. I couldn't take him seriously at all.

The chase scene near the end where Baby is running away from the police was good stuff except his ear buds should have fallen out several times. They must have glued them to his ears or something. The signing between Baby and his foster dad was terrible acting. Their hands moved much too slow for us to believe that their characters have been signing for years.

The last heist was so far fetched. You'd have to be crazy to rob a post office.

And it needed better music too. Other than that, the story got a lot better. It really turned out to be fun once the second act started. I loved Buddy's death scene. It's not often that you see the bad guy fall off a ledge onto a burning car. Bats' death scene was unexpected but Jamie really stole every scene he was in. He really brought credibility to the idea that these guys were hardened criminals. There were some unbelievable moments were I shook my head. Like that part where Baby leaped high and over that car. I was like, yeah right. Lol

A high Rotten Tomatoes score does not mean the film is great; it means that most critics believe it is good enough to watch.

That would pretty much be how I would rate it: it was a good film for action film fans, but I would not call it great.

Everything you've said is false.

reply

What I said is how it works.

Rotten Tomatoes does not use a weighted scale based on weighted reviews.

The perception, at least yours (thebricks), is not reality.

reply

Who the hell are you to tell me what is real and what isn't real, little boy?

Go away.

reply

Xenopharb is right, though. You don't seem to understand Rotten Tomatoes, nor do you understand how ludicrous it is to assume that Baby Driver found a way to contact and bribe every professional reviewer and every amateur blogger. All the while, movies with six times the budget of Baby Driver, films like Transformers or The Mummy, were unable to get in touch with any of these easily bribed reviewers.

Your entire hypothesis is flawed.

You need an IQ over 50 to understand a great movie like this.

reply

So Stephen Hawkings, explain how Jon Hamm escapes certain arrest and death from the cops and Baby numerous times in this brilliant movie?

reply

Most stopped putting stock into RT when Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the first ever 'certified fresh'

barf

reply

OMG, 77% RT rating? The fix was in for that for sure.

reply

I don't like that movie either, but no, there was no "fix," grow the hell up.

reply

Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a great movie that deserved a higher rating.

reply

Only if you forget the existence of first 3 movies or just didn't see them. Otherwise, nah it was an insult to the series and a decently watchable entertainment at best.

reply

Logan was a stupid movie that didn't make any sense.

At least Wonder Woman made more money than Logan.

reply

Wonder Woman was released in the summer and was PG-13, clown. Box office is also not an indicator of a movie's quality, but rather its marketing.

reply

First you try to make a point by mentioning the rating, and then you talk about the marketing? Make up your fucking mind because they are two different things.

reply

[deleted]

Well instead of being a little bitch why don't you educate me by elaborating smartass?

reply

Why are you so immature and rude to people?

Seeing Transformers is a movie with a lot of money to back it, you would think that movie would have a 98% rating. It doesn't work that way though. Generally, with some exceptions, RT is pretty accurate when it comes to the quality of a movie. IMDB is another story. Since the public does the voting, sometimes IMDB gets it wrong; but again it is all opinion, so who knows.

reply

Rotten Tomatoes wasn't accurate here. It was really bad. I was sort of ok with it, but then the end just fell apart, especially with Terminator Jon Hamm getting out of almost everything alive. I wouldn't be shocked he survived falling off that parking garage too. The movie was just ridiculous.

Critics won't praise Transformers because it's long past its expiration date. Bay probably just isn't paying for the reviews either.

I know why Hollywood likes their movies rated PG-13. Just to be sure that you don't come up with another arrogant statement: lower the rating, bigger the audience that can go see it. In usa a movie can be rated MA-17 and can anyways be seen by 8 years old if they go with adults actually, but this is another topic.

Now, just to pull some ahit out of your head, I will learn you something new: not every PG-13 rated movies have big marketing, just like a lot of MA-17 rated movies DO have a huge marketing.

Bottom line, low rating CAN and will more often come with huge marketing, but it is not guaranteed. Deadpool was R rated and still had a huge marketing and it was definitely bigger than a lot of PG-13 rated movies.

So please if you can't come up with anything else than childish insults just do everyone a favor and shut the fuck up.

reply

Deadpool is the EXCEPTION, NOT THE RULE, MORON.
