The psycho vs the fiance
I find the fiance character quite boring.
However, Simon does make the whole movie suspenseful. He's so sick. I had to watch the whole movie to see how Jessica can escape!

The fiancé was gullible lol.
shareAs the years go by, I think Jessica will regret her decision to leave Simon, and will look back fondly upon her time with him down in the basement. Her fiance is a nice-looking guy, but kind of bland, boring, & self-absorbed. But Simon was an interesting & charismatic character, very good-looking, treated her with a sort of old-fashioned macho deference, and was completely devoted to her, as long as she was willing to overlook a few of his quirks. I think in spite of it all, Jessica missed him, which is why she went back to see him in prison. Actually, she was somewhat obsessed with him, wrote a book about their time together, and it was probably the defining element of her life. Although she tried to conceal it, I think that there was some chemistry in their relationship, and in that interview in the prison. I think he'll remain in her thoughts in the future, and she'll look back fondly upon her time in the basement, when she was treated with a kind of traditional respect, which she'll never again experience, in her dreary day-to-day suburban life.
shareThat is QUITE the interpretation!
shareThis reminded me of the Cleveland case.
