Ending SPOILER!!!

Ok so as a woman I'm baffled by the ending. WTH does it mean when women say 'this is something I have to do on my own'? What is wrong with support? Aside from that, why did she need to taunt her abductor? All that tells me is that she hasn't yet moved on and in fact, rekindled the obsession. In my experience it's best to completely ignore a stalker. They're crazy!

Also, I missed the first 5 min. Why was she moving? Or was the moving after her abduction?

When they lived in the city, her and her husband had just returned from a night out and an intruder entered their house with a gun and demanded his wallet, her purse and her engagement ring. She started packing her stuff that very night.

There's nothing wrong with having support, but I get her wanting to do it on her own. It's a way of showing herself as mush as that POS that she's good and can stand on her own again. And just because she wanted to taunt him a little doesn't mean she's not over it. Clearly the man is delusional and living in his own head. He won't truly feel the hell he's in as long as he can keep deluding himself that his girl is out there waiting for him and still caring about him. She managed to smash any ray of hope he had and now he'll fell the hell.

Thanks for the beginning recap.

Intellectually I see your point regarding her wanting to prove to herself that she could do it on her own because maybe she lost some confidence. For me, I just don't see the point because my situation was different nor did I suffer a lack of confidence thank god. I think stalkers, abusers etc need to know that you're not on your own, that you have people who
care about you. So I view his presence as a show of solidarity.

As far as the taunting, I can agree to disagree. Especially becsuse the mere fact of her visiting told him that she still thinks about him which reinforced his delusion as evidencec by him kissing her picture on the cover. Not only that but he believed he was giving her an opportunity to write her book and inadvertantly he did. For the crazy folks, that might also send the signal that he was right to 'support' her desire to write so kidnapping her was good for her. I also say she's not over it (and that's ok) because she was thinking about him and felt the need to prove a point. While certain situations remind me of my ex stalker I have zero desire to contact him in any way because I'm over it.

Everyone has closure in their own way. Hers was seeing him locked up making sure he knew she never cared for him and leaving with a parting gift the book she wrote knowing she beat him at his own game.

Simon and stalkers in general are crazy they take any kind of attention as positive.

reply

Got cha. But don't you think that the pie with the finger prints on the keypad and her attacking him to save her fiancé along with telling him that he'll have to kill her told him then and there that she never cared and bested him at his own game?

Taunting in general is a weakness in my opinion. Once you've won it should be over. She got him locked up for life...biggest win ever. People like him learn more (if that's possible) from being forgotten.

I'm independent but never feel the need to prove it to anyone else. Much less a psycho stalker.

reply

Sorry, unable to edit previous post. I'm not sure if you're agreeing with her visit or not because I agree that psychos do take any attention as positive. However, that's exactly my point. She reinforced his delusion by going to visit and give him her book. Especially autographed. If by some technicality he gets out, she guaranteed he will stalk and kill her.

reply

She and her husband, not her and her husband.

reply

I thought they were engaged not married, I'm sure when introduced to Simon it was as fiance not husband.

Correct, they were engaged. This poster just wanted to correct the grammar.

Right, at the start of the movie, they are engaged, but by the time she visits Simon in prison, quite a bit of time has passed obviously. Investigations, trial, sentencing, book writing and publishing. Her name on the book reflects she has taken on Evan's last name, indicating they have now elevated their status from engaged to married in all the time that has passed. =)
