What prompted the husband, who sold his house and is just about to drive off, to walk in the neighbor's house? and why would the smell of freshly baked pie indicate to him that it was his wife who baked it? Did he not think that maybe the neighbor baked a pie or that he bought one at the store and was warming it up? I think that situation was a little too convenient in order to have an ending to the plot
FourAM, answering with an insult is a sure sign of immaturity and lack of valid argument.
First of all, the neighbor left the dead friend in his car in a slum area to cover the murder as an attack in the slums.
Secondly, yes the neighbor had a shady past but he was never convicted. Because he was not convicted does not make him guilty. It just makes him a suspect. There is a difference.
Thirdly, like I said, rhubarb pie is available in stores or the neighbor could have baked it. It is NOT a unique thing whose recipe is a secret. Smelling it did not necessarily mean that it was baked by no one else but his wife.
I still stand by what I said that everything fell unrealistically too nicely into place in order to have an "nice" ending to the movie.
Evan became suspicious that Jessica was there because when Simon brought the bottle of wine over as a going away gift, at Jessica's suggestion, she hugged Simon and put lipstick on his collar. Earlier in the movie she and Evan discussed how jealous or possessive she was by putting lipstick on all the collars of his shirts. Then he got the call from Oscar about the cop friend who was murdered. That's why he went into Simon's house. Also, obviously the only thing Jessica really cooks/bakes is that type of pie. She doesn't cook much, but she chose that because she knew Evan would know that as another clue. Then eating with their fingers she could see the numbers, as I'm sure you guessed.
angelique_30606, I have to admit it: you got me stumped! - I didn't notice the point about lipstick on the collars. - "eating with their fingers she could see the numbers" huh? I thought she decided that they should eat the pie with their hands as a way to prevent him from having a weapon with which he could attack her. I confess I am going to have to watch the movie again to look for the points you raised. You really got me, hahaha
I thought the lipstick on the collar was a really cool trick. I had a hard time believing the sticky fingers were premeditated for the purpose of reading the buttons, but in a movie like this, it probably was. Either way, that was pretty clever, too.
