If it can't beat US's 2nd weekend then it looks like Disney has got yet another expensive flop on it's hands.
Good grief they are piling them up.
Should beat Us, which is estimated at $40m. Surprised it gets A-.

SATURDAY AM UPDATE: Disney's Dumbo is leading the way, pulling in an estimated $15.3 million on Friday, heading toward a debut on the lower end of our weekend expectations, most likely finishing around $45-50 million. The film received an "A-" CinemaScore.
170 million production budget. This is yet another Disney film that will lose at least 100 million dollars.
No other studio is cranking out this many 100 million dollar losing films again and again. It's never-ending.
I could definitely see it losing up to $150 million in its theatrical run. However family films like this do wonders in the ancillary market. Plus there's stuff like the Dumbo ride at Magic Kingdom. Disney always has a way to make a profit.
shareThey will never make up this loss. Do you realize how hard 150 million is to make up in the ancillary markets?
shareThat may be true for other studios but it is laughable for Disney. First of all Ancillary markets are grossly underrated. On top of it Disney has every piece of media they've ever created to add to their new streaming service. Its not a question of whether they will make back the money from Dumbo. Its a question of how long it will take. The same went for Batman v Superman.
