The ending (spoilers)
The vast majority of the reviews for this film claim that the ending is completely out-of-the-blue and terrible. Reading these reviews, It seems like most critics think that David wasn't paying attention and was accidentally hit when crossing the road, in an attempt to merely shock the audience. But if you watch David when he's approaching the crosswalk, he looks to his left, where the oncoming car would be, twice, implying that he was deliberately trying to get hit. Also, at the Cannes press conference, Tim Roth refers to David as "suicidally depressed," making it even more obvious that it was suicide. Anyone feel the same way or have any thought on the ending?
