He knew what the "choices" were, he was just trying to get an audio recording of her saying it. He was a PI trying to get proof of prostitution so that the children of Michael could blackmail her out of the money she was given in the changes to his will.

But he was really stupid in thinking he could get someone who is studying law to do something that would incriminate herself. He obviously knew everything about her before he made contact.
