It's laughable that the files are "lost"....The entire Library of

Congress by some estimates is 200 terabytes. Go to Amazon and look up flash/thumb drives. You could fit the entire library of congress in your pocket for less than $100. Text takes the least amount of space. Data recovery techniques can recover data that's been overwritten several times. It's most likely they have online backup of all of their files for years, not to mention paper copies.

you can't recover data overwritten.
If by that you mean data on a drive that has the specific sectors overwritten where the data was located. data is found using the features of the OS filing management in particular caching etc

as for the missing files, she was looking for files that did not exist (christine), not the missing files her work colleague couldn't find. ie she wanted anything on the shell company, something that clearly didn't not exist in their documents.
