Episode 9 was cringeworthy good

Wasn't that something? I think that scenario may be the biggest fear a lot of people have. When something sexual or controversial is sent to family, friends and colleagues. Amazing acting by Keough and Paul Sparks in this episode. When everything falls apart for her. Quite an episode.

yeah, but woulda been better if we actually found out how it got out there, our best guess is thru Jack seeing as he got her # among other things but the finale just kinda ended, idk if they wanna see how it goes like a Netflix kinda thing & how many people go & watch it & check out the interest to see if they want more or what. hopefully it continues and not stops like that

I thought it was general knowledge that it was Jack?

This episode was the best of the season. I binge watched this whole series stoned yesterday and it blew my mind.

I really like this show. I like the tone, I like the story, Riley keough was perfect in this role. I like all of the little things you have to pay attention to that slip in. Definitely a watch more than once series.

The crazy thing about this episode and this series is the psychology of it all. The main character I believe really is a
sociopath and this episode proves it. Every thing she does in that office building is calculated and manipulative.

What I got away from watching this episode in a stoned trance is that SHE sent the email, including to her own family. The family part I found surprising, but then I realized a sociopath wouldn't care about their family and would send a sex tape to them. Especially if it was part of a plan for a bigger picture.

The reason why it's her that sent the video is shown. She can easily say her email was hacked but it wasn't. When you see the video you assume the stalker guy took it, but watch it again. It's at her apartment, it was an in-call, not at his place. The video was taken with all the surveillance she installed and obsessed about. Then she was the one that sent it, she had to send it to family to make it believable. It's all just a chess game to a sociopath like her. The second thing that points to her being the one, is that before she goes to David's office where she pretends she has no idea she has her phone on recording the whole conversation. When she is hearing the office chatter and tuning it out, she is acting, she is selling the story of what it's like to be shamed by a scandal about to implode.

This whole series is about the life of a sociopath. Notice that a sociopath is someone that blends in society. This character is going through the motions of every aspect of her life. Without any attachment or emotion. Being an escort is just the perfect vessel to show a functioning sociopath like this.

I loved it. Riley keough nailed the role. Only thing I hate is cheap Canadian production. I hate shows that are filmed in And from Canada but try to pass as Chicago or NYC. Takes me out of it a little- lol

I figure that Jack did it. He was controlling and overbearing which she did not care about.

I enjoy this series. Riley portrays Christine well.

Is she a sociopath? I guess so.

David got what he deserved.

reply

Episode 9 was in fact the best episode. It kept your attention really well.

reply

She definitely has sociopathic traits. She's very good at lying and manipulating, fakes most of her emotions, is superficially charming but there's nothing but emptiness beneath the charm, and has trouble empathizing with and relating to other people. That also explains why living her life as a criminal is a better fit than working in a real profession, and why she seems to thrive on chaos. I thought having a main character who might be a sociopath was definitely more interesting than going the tired "hooker with a heart of gold" route that they could have gone with a show like this.

That she sent the video and not Jack is an interesting theory. I wouldn't put something like that past someone like her, and getting that huge settlement might have been her master plan all along. But I think it could have just as easily been Jack. His stalking was reaching insane levels by that point. And a guy with his money and resources could have easily had her hacked.

reply

Jack sent it as payback for going to his friends wife telling her he was stalking her. Which would of embarrassed him and a stalking control freak doesn't take being embarrassed very well.

reply

Exactly! Instantly thought of Jack when the tape came out. She has no reason to do that.

reply

I originally thought Jack was the one who sent it-- but after coming on here I thought it made sense that she could have done it.

Rememeber when she asked her sister if she thought she was a sociopath. She was known for recording videos without their knowledge. It got her a payout from her job. Allowed that effect her previous internship boss. Upset her parents which she states they made her who she was. Allowed her to drop out of school and be an escort fulltime.

reply

I have to disagree with the theory that she sent it.. Having read all the comments above, some very convincing points have been made but no one has mentioned her law career which she seems to take seriously. We get that scene where she gets into class late for her test and exclaims, 'oh sh*t'.. She even asks for a 're-test'.. Sending that video herself and deliberately harming her career doesn't play out well.. Sociopath and all. I think she does really care about her law career.

Everyone is mentioning Jack or at least bringing him up second but I struggle to see his motive.. Jack is a control freak, insanely self-interested and would rather have her back even if it is by force.. It does not suit his person or character to send the video..

What about Simon Burcher?

reply

It was Jack all the way. She went to his friends and scorned him. How would Simon Burcher have access to video of Jack and Christine? Jack recorded it. He had his voice altered and sent it out to ruin her. Total payback.

Christine is so cunning that she used it to her advantage.

reply

Yes, I agree with this. Simon Burcher already got what he wanted - for her to drop her claim to Michael's money, and Burcher was working for Michael's family, so that was his only goal. He doesn't personally have a grudge against Christine. Jack released it and Christine capitalized on it. She had started recording all her interactions with David - just in case. Remember the name of the one of the episodes was "Insurance." She was gathering insurance.

That's what I believe too. I can see why people would think she sent it herself but I really do think it was Jack to get back at her and she was just smart enough to do what she needed to make it work to her advantage.

She was a very smart girl. Emotionally stunted for sure (I don't believe she was a true sociopath, she did seem to care about her friend Avery in the beginning, she's just not "warm and fuzzy" like most people), but very smart.

I loved her character. So complex.

To be completely honest, I think more young beautiful woman should become high paid escorts. So many men are just little boys who like to play with pretty things and if they are willing to pay for it, I say, GO FOR IT! Better than working at some crappy retail job. BUT, I would definitely not do it on my own. I think women like Jacqueline are necessary to weed out the psychos. To me, it would be worth the 30% I pay her not to have to deal with stalkers or abusers.

If she sent it herself she wouldn't have needed to scroll thru the email on her phone to see who it had been sent to. And Jack wouldn't have simply stopped harassing her at that same time.

reply

it was actually not filmed at her house but jacks house, as she went upstairs to get her phone..she might have filmed it at his house which is why it was under the pillow, but doesn't explain why they had the psycho storyline about him only for it to turn out it was her

reply

But remember all that surveillance equipment wasn't installed until AFTER she'd broken up with Jack and he started stalking her. So that wasn't what she recorded their sex session with...it was with her camera phone that she had set up from across the room...it was focused on her face.

B*tch was straight up sociopath! Love it!

I viewed this episode again for the third time- lol. I still think Christine sent the email (I dont think it was an in-call anymore tho- it happened right after their "date" and is art on the wall- Christine apartment is minimalist with practically no furniture).

Im very confused about a part tho. She goes to Davids office and records the conversation ( remember she is supposed to be clueless for the people that think Jack sent the email- i believe if you watch her body language she shows the correct body language and mannerisms- but its all acting just like her panic attack- shes an escort and a sociopath- shes a natural expert on showing the body language and mannerisms shes suppose to convey in this situation even an akward one like this) After the confrontation, she goes to the bathroom watches the tape and zooms in I think with no headphones. Then I think she goes in a that trance stare- and goes to record the guys talking about her at the watercooler. Then she goes back to the bathroom and listens to the recording w/ headphones. Then she scrolls through her contact list with like 200 email address and in the subject box attachment video.jpg. Is this part confirming that the video came from her email ( in her sent file) and she sent it. Thats the impression I got but Im always stoned when I watch this.

The panic attack eye contact scene was the best thing I think iI've ever on tv. I guess I will just keep smoking and watch it for the 4th time- My brain cant comprehend it all- hahaha- i love this episode. If someone can interpret this episode thats watched the whole series- I would love to hear your interpretaion.

Holy *beep* I rewatched lol-(headnotes- stoned and half a bottle of makers 46) -lol and now im 100% convinced she sent the email. I got the sequence of the way things down wrong in my last post.

But the no headphones and with headphones is key. She watched the sex tape without head phones, cold, maybe feeling some type of way (shes a sociopath- lol i know) that she sent the email. Her phone has like 5 missed messages from her sister- which she ignores like a robot and goes straight to scrolling and the tape. Then after that she emabarrasses that ugly boss on purpose- ( social engineering shes a pro at) then she records the guys. Then after that she records the guys by the coffee. Then she goes to her desk for a second- goes to what looks like a different bathroom- and WITH headphones this time listen to all the "harrasment" she recorded.

If you watch closely while shes listening she breaks into a smile for a milasecond. *beep* sociopath! i love it!

reply

Yes that episode was Everything

I don't think she sent that email- those tears where real. What I think happened was she made a horrible situation work to her benefit instead of just ruining her. That other nut case Jake sent that email , she played her hand to the T . She went around to get snid bits here and there . What was the cherry on top of the cake was the fact that she recorded her bosses underhanded deeds . It's like she planned this from the beginning when she asked him during the recording if I don't do what you ask of me and he responded " I will fire you " she had a law suit right then and there even if it was out of context. No one wants a public scandal and to keep things quiet cost money.

What I actually think happened was she was pissed about not being able to get her hands on that 500,000 that Micheal left to her . When people think they have that money they start thinking of how it would change their lives . So she created a way to get a chunk of change instead of working for it 2,000 hr . This maybe reaching though , maybe I'm the sociopath ?
