Binge watched this show last night through Ep 7. The P.I. that was setting her up was working for the kids of the rich old guy so she'd drop the claim to her half million. Why did that guy call Jacqueline when he failed to get her recorded on tape? What's the connection with the former madame?

It was never explained. But Michael (the man who died) initially met Christine through Jacqueline, so he would have had her name and number somewhere or might have written checks to her. The PI was aware of Jacqueline's line of work and coerced her into cooperating.
