Most fascinating show and main character on TV right now....

I have so many different reactions to this show, it's bizarre. While watching season 1, I felt it was, at varying points: funny, cold, vile, disturbing, intriguing, scary, and...most of all....very sad.

You could also use those same words to describe our main character Christine, as well.

Kudo's to the showrunners for presenting an unlikeable but very complex woman as a main character. She's very difficult to relate to, but I like that challenge as a viewer. It makes for very interesting viewing. Because I can't relate to Christine, everything she does seems fresh and original.

I can't remember ever seeing a main character quite so distant and removed as she is. Especially with her attitude to sex.

What I personally enjoy so much about this show is that you see much more on rewatches (and the episodes are so short that you can justify it, lol). I've noticed more and more little looks, gestures, body language, ect, from Christine in particular.

I don't find her as unlikeable as others. However, I liked her more the first time around and the more I watched, the more I did see her as colder and colder. But I didn't find her unlikeable as a whole.

Completely. And with that score - or lack there of? - setting the tone, it was downright ominous at some points.

What a lovely day!

Agreed. Some people find Riley's performance very wooden but I think it's perfect for the series. I think she's actually a very good actress, who can portray an emotion with the raise of an eyebrow or a side glance.

I didn't find her to be *purely* unlikeable but I found it hard to relate to her. She is a borderline sociopath and seems very uncomfortable around people. She feels safest when she is alone.

Oh absolutely. It's a very dark show, no question. Reminds me a little of another Starz show about a disconnected woman who has sexual issues..."Flesh and Bone".

I noted in the thread "Riley's acting - disconnected or wooden?" that if you watch Episode 4 again, you'll see her portray a wide variety of emotions in that episode.

Well said. You might want to post that in the thread " beautiful girl but....." Her acting skills are under attack by the OP.

Okay just started episode one of Flesh and Bone. Ballerinas are not usually my thing, but I really like the show so far. It is almost a mixture of The Girlfriend Experience and Black Swan.

So far, so good. Thanks for the recommendation. I needed something new.

What a lovely day!

Glad you're enjoying it! Starz seems intent on these new psycho-sexual dramas. I also like the use of music in the series, especially the great final episode.

I'm about halfway through and still enjoying it, although it leaves me with the same weirded-out, uncomfortable feeling while I'm watching it, sort of like the Girlfriend Experience, which I'm liking.

It made me laugh when I realized that the brother is Slit from Mad Max. I didn't watch the Girlfriend Experience because Capable is in it but here I am watching another show with another Mad Max character. With Nux as my avatar/username, I'm looking obsessed lol

What a lovely day!

I couldn't possibly disagree more. This show is like sexual nyquil. 2 dead eyed mannequin actresses wallowing in self pity for 30 minutes a week with zero personality or levity. It's like watching GIRLS without the comedy. I find nothing intriguing about these women because they have no personality...nothing to care about.

reply

Well, to each his own. I found it fascinating although, much like GFE, hard to relate to the characters. To me, that makes it even more intriguing because it takes a refreshing approach.
