One of the Most Unlikeable Characters on TV

I watched the show because it piqued my curiosity. I will not be watching season 2.

There is nothing likeable about the character, other than her physical attributes. She gets all offended when someone calls her a whore? Really? You are one. That is like a used car salesman getting offended when you call him a used car salesman.

She has no personality. From the first guy you see her have sex with to the people she works with. There is no passion in this character. Nothing to make you want to like, or even empathize with her. I would bet that the new Japanese sex robots have more personality.

If the ending of the show was that she ended up dead in a ditch, I'd watch that.

The guys on the show aren't any better...I guess that's the point..I don't think they are trying to make her look good at all..it is just her story...for better or worse...for me...a character study I find interesting.

That was intentional, and every effective for the story that was being told.

Yes, there wasn't supposed to be passion in the character. Christine was not a wild party girl. She was smart, studious, ambitious and from a good family background. In her first client experience she seemed somewhat nervous as if struggling with her conscience. When that went ok, she expanded to multiple clients and always seemed pleasant but reserved while letting the men think she was loving the sex (which her facial expressions behind their back proved otherwise). For their part, the clients were not looking for a passionate call girl. They wanted someone who was sexy but also sophisticated and pleasant to talk to or have dinner with. They were paying for her to conduct herself as if she were their girlfriend rather than just a call girl. They were repeat clients who wanted to feel like they had a relationship with her rather than just paying a girl for sex. Riley Keough played the role as if Christine were a real person and not a stereotype. It was easy to imagine Christine acting as she did in her various experiences in the show even tho the character might have been more passionate if played differently. I could easily imagine a girl in Christine's situation acting exactly as she was portrayed by Riley Keough.

I agree that she is one of the most unlikeable main characters on TV. To me, that is why I will CONTINUE to keep watching.

I think it's refreshing to see someone so selfish and anti-social as a main character. I doubt anyone could relate to Christine but I am sure there are more layers to her yet to be discovered. I'd love to find out more about why she turned out the way she did.

She did make a very interesting comment at her parents' anniversary party. "I am what I am because of you" (possible paraphrasing).

Did her parents ruin her? Abuse her? Seems doubtful, given how warmly she greeted her father.

In any case, there are more mysteries to uncover and I hope there is a season 2.

"This is dead air, Barry....dead air."

I agree with this completely. Who wants to watch a zombie have sex for an entire season? Not me. This show should be renamed Sexual Nyquil. I don't buy for a second that someone would find her entertaining enough to pay her, unless it was to go away. She is like the depressed girl at the party who brings the vibe down. I get that she is supposedly created that way, but what's the point? If she has no personality, nothing to care about, then who cares what happens to her? I don't.

She's not a good enough actress to convey what she needs to in such an understated role. Rachel Evan Wood would be so much better.
