Did she fake that or play that up, in order to gain sympathy and/or make the jerks talking in the office look bad? She gave a little look to Tellis as it was happening and it seemed like a possible manipulative move on her part.

She faked it. She was clearly distressed when Tellis showed her the video and when she went to the ladies room and checked her phone to see the entire audience it was sent to. When she was essentially fired, she came back into the office to see everyone had moved on and was conducting business as usual. She knew if she wanted to be anything more than an afterthought in that office, she needed to make a scene that would gain sympathy. She was already very upset and went into the hyperventilation mode to establish a case for herself for wrongful termination. When she was given a ride home, she was not too upset to eat a burger. So while she faked the hyperventilation, she was still upset at being humiliated and fired but not so upset she couldn't eat.

Well said. This scene is a great example to counter those who say Riley acts like a "robot" in the show and communicates little range. I think she's just about perfect in the show. She is believable and scary when she shows rage (confronting Jacqueline, for example) and is believable in how solitary and closed-off emotionally she is. She does exactly what the script asks her to and does it very well.
It's a terrific performance. In interviews, Riley is so engaging and eloquent and it makes her performance resonate even more when you see her outside the role.
I'll be intrigued to see what she does from here.

I was wondering if she faked the hyperventilating also. But during it she fixed her gaze on the guy she was in the video with (I forget his name). So I thought more like she was faking else she wouldn't as likely be staring at one person.
