Question about the baby

So I just started watching season 1, can someone explain the basics for me?

Is everyone infected already? Just like TWD once you die you turn?

To get infected you must be bit right? What about blood and scratches?

So how the heck did that any turn in episode 1? He was fine when they found him no bite marks or injuries and it was safely fastened in his car seat next thing he turned into a zombie but no where did it indicate the baby got bit or was injured in the first place. That part confused me unless I missed something.

Well thats the thing, WE have to assume people turn once they die (like TWD) even if they are not attacked by zombies.

But why did it become able to move around fast?

Like all zombie movies and esp series, the zombie change is not consistent (when it should be fairly consistent)

Just a small hole in the story compared to the electricity, machines/computers running without any maint for 3 years, fuel working, batteries working, cars working etc etc etc

My pee tastes like toast

They explain that the fresher the zombie, the quicker they are. For the baby, I'm assuming that since it hadn't eaten in a bit, that's what caused it to turn (hunger probably killed him without us seeing it, and he turned). And if memory serves, everyone is infected, so when you die, you turn.

I thought the baby was like Murphy: infected but immune.
