Saw the movie yesterday and I loved it - great story, great actors, great all together. One thing that bothered me a little, was the ending (obviously: spoiler ahead)...
I really wanted to know what happened to Sgt. Rasmussen afterwards. To start with - how did he get the boys? Did he just take them away, blatantly disregarding orders from his superior? If that is the case, certainly there would be consequences. Would he get shot, disrespectfully discharged or what?

Also, looking at pictures on the IMDB page for Under Sandet events - I'm even more convinced of Roland Møller's marvellous acting ability, because with that hat he's wearing, I could not take him seriously (lack's any sense of authority...)

Most likely (i. e. I have no real clue what I'm talking about) he would be punished for insubordination and then be dishonourably discharged. I don't think he could be in for martial punishment since the war is already long over.

Firstly I'm almost certain that the character of Sgt. Rasmussen is fictional...

But the death penalty was actually reinstated in Denmark in 1945 and a total of 46 people were executed in the country from 1946-1950. Rasmussen's actions could be regarded as treason, so it's not inconceivable that he would have received a really harsh punishment for his actions!

Wouldn't the authorities in Germany just send the kids straight back?

What authorities?
Germany was chaos to say it mildly. So nobody would care about four kids wandering the roads. There were thousands of thousands (they call them millions 😉) of people - young and old, men and women - wandering the German roads, trying to find their way 'home'.

actually it was forbidden to use prisoner of war the way they did.

German prisoners of war being used as mine clearers although they should have been protected under the Geneva Convention of July 27, 1929. Article 32 unequivocally states that: “It is forbidden to use prisoners of war at unhealthful or dangerous work.”
