the point of a PG-13 Kevin Smith film?

How is this supposed to be good? It would be like Quentin Tarantino, Eli Roth, or Rob Zombie making a non R rated film. Just does not work. I've seen the clip on Youtube. Feels like Kevin is desperate in trying to fit in and be hip. I know I shouldn't judge the whole movie based on one clip but I feel he is not being himself like he did with the other movies he wrote. I wish he would of stuck with his own stuff instead of trying to appeal to younger audiences. What makes his earlier work so great (even Red State and Tusk) is he wrote great material. Hope this fails so he can go back to doing what he does best.

Yes, I'm sure that a movie failing will convince the studio to let him do another movie.

I agree, Smith is at his best when he's vulgar, gory, or both. Why is he trying so damn hard to get a PG-13. It's sort of a myth that the rating appeals to a wider audience. I highly doubt the crowd he's aiming for even KNOW who Kevin Smith is (sadly)! I hope he doesn't do more PG-13 afterwards, and I'm REALLY hoping this gets a director's cutz

Seeing as how he wrote, directed and edited the film himself you're already getting the directors cut.... He's stated on numerous podcasts that he filmed this movie to be pg-13. It's a film starring his daughter, that her and her friends will be able to see. We might get an unrated cut that he ads in extra footage but I doubt that it'll be a big difference than he's already prepared for the theatrical release.... The movie doesn't have to be vulgar and gory for it to be good, I've enjoyed all of his films mostly because I enjoy his writing.

I enjoy his writing too and the swearing is one of the best parts. Not to mention the gore in tusk was great. Having neither here kind of sucks to me.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tusk... But I also think that this rating was for his and Depps daughters... I don't need but still enjoy the vulgarity... And I can't wait to see the movie when he tours it here in Houston in June.

He's doing the films he wants with the casts he want. I think Kevin Smith is quite lucky in that regard, and probably very very happy.
