What is with the accent?
Canadians do not talk that way. Please. This movie is so racist.
shareCanadian is a nationality, not a race
shareBefore Kevin Smith made Clerks he was a big fan of the Degrassi series. The first thing he bought with the money he made off of Clerks was a complete set of Degrassi on videotape, and he went on to direct a couple episodes of Degrassi (with his friend Alannis Morissette guest starring).
Conclusion: As with Bob and Doug McKenzie, Talking With Americans, every episode of the Simpsons written by Canadian writers with references to Canada (Matt Groening could claim Canadian citizenship via his father), the Michael Buble performance at the Vancouver Olympics, etc, Kevin Smith has basically adopted the fine Canadian tradition of making fun of stereotypes of Canadians and embracing them in a good natured manner (while poking fun at the ignorant). Because, hey, either viewers are in on the joke, or they are so ignorant and sheltered their opinion of people living more than 15 miles away from their birthplace does not matter.
It's supposed to make fun of the way Canadians are perceived by Americans. The humor probably doesn't flow if you don't get how he makes jokes on his podcast.
shareThe term you're looking for would be ethnocentric.
