Seen it. Will answer any questions
Yep. Saw it in Houston.
shareIs it as cheesy and dated as the trailer makes it look the entire time?
I think I know precisely what I mean when I say it's a shpadoinkle day!
Not so much. I was surprised how professional it looked. Literally the Bratzi fight scene that you see some of in Trailer 2 is the only cheesy cgi dated B movie feel in the whole flick.
shareBased on trailer, It looks like the worst Kevin Smith film there is. I usually like his work but this looks just plain.......terrible. Would I have more fun watching this film or getting punched in the face...........repeatedly......By Tyson............with Brass knuckles?
shareHow much of the movie Tusker is in it? Does it speak about those events? As Johny Depp is playing the same cop and Justin Long is also in both movies.
shareThere are multiple references to Tusk from the girls point of view and yes, Johnny Depp plays the same character.
Justin Long plays a completely different character.
There is however, no nee to have seen Tusk before you see this and this also doesn't have any spoilers for Tusk in you end up seeing this first.
how would you compare this movie to Tusk?
is it better? worse? does it even compare?
I watched Kevin Smith's Q&A premiere last night, knowing this was the second part of a trilogy where I haven't seen Tusk. Loved this movie and watched Tusk immediately afterwards. For the comparison part, the fact they carry over some of the characters and the characters that carry over are true to themselves, and are very fun characters to watch in both movies are as much as the two can compare. Dialogue was also pretty true to Kevin Smith and his style in both.
These two movies are very different genres and go for entirely different themes and tones altogether. Tusk came off as more of an awkward movie, but I couldn't stop watching until the end. That one had more horror elements and imagery, with slight bits of dark comedy thrown in.
Yoga Hosers decided to take the two girls from the convenience store and flesh them out and develop them more. It was like Clerks with teen girls instead, and made more family friendly, which in his Q&A, was definitely an element that inspired him in making this movie. It was a pretty hilarious movie, and the horror elements came off more as campy and hilarious rather than awkward and disturbing like Tusk's.
I agree. I really liked this movie a lot, much more than Tusk. Tusk was weird and kept you interested while you were watching it, but this was a return to the kind of goofy comedy Smith did with "Mallrats" and "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back". The two lead actresses are naturals and very fun to watch on screen. I am sure Lily-Rose Depp especially will continue to get movie roles after this (she reminds me of a young AnnaSophia Robb a lot). The movie showed that Smith can tone down his usual R-rated humor and still make a funny movie (in fact, the movie is very appropriate for kids; I think the worst curse word in it was the odd "sh*t" here and there). This was proven in the funny post-movie Q&A moment where a 9 year old girl in the audience said she really enjoyed the movie. Smith admitted that she was the target audience he was going for when he created the movie.
It's just a very light, colorful, cartoony movie. The horror elements are silly a la '80s movies like "Gremlins". The comedy makes you laugh without being offensive. Depp's performance was consistently silly and funny. The scene near the end where the Nazi villain guy starts doing impersonations of various actors was hilarious. I think the movie has the making of a cult hit on DVD.
Great!
going to watch this in the theater tomorrow
I have a question: is "seen it" short for "I seen it" or "I dun seen it?" How deep, exactly, does the illiteracy go?
Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.
Has nothing to do with illiteracy.
