I Enjoyed It..

I thought this movie was exceptional due to the fact it was filmed in 20 days. Doom head is the best character Zombie has made since Otis from The Devil's Rejects. I can agree most of the victims where not developed completely but I don't think that takes too much away from the film. All of the villains where fantastic. Of course I would have rather seen the film before it was cut twice over but the ending result wasn't anything to be ashamed of. Not his greatest work but I would rank it with The Lords Of Salem (I enjoyed that movie as well). Its nice to go to the theater and see something different than a jump scare full piece of trash like the Conjuring.

The movie was awesome, loved brake, by the way he responded to me on Twitter

For me, 31 is tied with House/1,000 Corpses and Devil's Rejects as far as the violence and brutality.

I don't get the hate for this film at all. I too found it quite enjoyable.

I've been chasing grace/ But grace ain't easy to find

reply

So did I. I don't see why so many people seem to hate it. But sometimes I get the feeling Rob Zombie could've made The Exorcist and people would still hate it just because he directed it to be honest. I will always think he is a great director and defend him from the criticism.

reply

So you're saying that people are hating JUST because Rob directs something and yet you're doing the exact same thing but in reverse. You are going to defend ANYTHING he makes simply because its him? No director is free from criticism and immune from making a bad movie... Clearly a lot of people on this board like Zombie and most of the movies he has made but that doesn't change the fact that this movie had problems and a lot of people dislike it.

I don't enjoy everything he makes. I don't care much for The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. That kind of raunchy comedy isn't my cup of tea so I don't watch it often. It's his only dud I've seen so far, though. Other than that, I think he is the greatest horror director of the 21st century.

reply

I think Zombies best character is Captain Spaulding with Doom head as his 2nd but I pretty much agree with you on everything else.

reply

I liked it too. I can't say I loved it, but some of that has to do with me not being in the right headspace for this kind of movie. I'll watch it again another time.

It's a 70's style grindhouse horror movie. It's successful in that regard. It doesn't have grand aspirations, so I don't know why people get so upset about R. Zombie movies. Complaining about the non-existent plot? Really? We're told everything we need to know. Who the people are running the game doesn't need to be any further fleshed out. What good what that do. They're obviously wealthy people and the bit of them getting out of costume to go back to their lives at the end is enough to glean that from. I get that some may find the ending unsatisfying. I'm okay with ambiguous endings, though if you play it out, it hardly seems possible anything other than Doom-Head killing Charly is what occurs. And if you accept the premise of the movie, that's the only realistic outcome. No way are these people going to let her go an put themselves at risk.

I DO feel like its all something I've seen before, but that's my only real criticism.

Rock on, Rob!

I don't understand all the negative people on this, for me it was as good as 1000s corpses.

I enjoyed it as well. In my opinion another deranged, carnage soaked masterpiece from Rob Zombie :)
