Was anybody else disappointed by this film?

I felt that the story was very weak, if there even was any story, and the film basically had no ending. I liked the clowns, the set was amazing and the filming was very well done, but I can't help thinking that Rob Zombie could have done much better.

I'm right there with you! I was actuality bored... house of 1,000 corpses and devils rejects blew me away. This movie just was bad.

reply

It wasn't bad... but it wasn't good. I had high hopes due to all the other Rob Zombie films just were phenomenal to me! I would have liked more character build up and back story.

reply

^^ That's it! I always thought R.Z. is doing a great job in character development but in 31 there's next to nothing, except for one, Doom-Head. And actually scenes with him in are the best parts in the whole movie. There's sort of a back story attached to his character, even short. But we get to know him better. All others, victims and antagonist, stay pretty trivial.

reply

What did you expect?? He always cares more for his villains over the victims it's what made Devil's Rejects so good but Halloween so terrible.

reply

Wasn't bad? Wasn't BAD?!? No, you're right... 31 wasn't bad; it was an absolute joke. Truth be told, it was one of the worst movies I've seen in the last decade. The only reason why anybody watched or gave ANY attention to this steaming piece of crap is because it had Zombie's name on it.

Let's not kid ourselves.

reply

Don't know how anybody could be disappointed by anything Zombie does. All of his films are basically the same.

reply

Pretty much, he always cares more for the villains, everyone curses constantly, and sick kills and sweet soundtracks, though I like his original stuff including this just can't stand his Halloweens.

reply

Nah, I can't agree, House of 1,000 corpses and Devil's Rejects actually had a plot. This piece of *beep* movie had nothing going for it. I don't expect big things from RZ but I do expect that the movie isn't supposed to look like a $1k budget movie made by a college student. I watched maybe 45 minutes and then turned it off. This and Lords of Salem (which had a plot, but NOTHING happens) is by far his worst movies. I did however appreciate his earlier ones.

reply

He's got enough potential as a director that it's too bad he sabotages his own movies with his bad/practically non-existent scripts.

reply

My thoughts are that if he (Rob) had more time, and money, he could do some really great work. The potential is definitely there. Lords Of Salem was an awesome film.

reply

Agreed. I knew there would be problems with the Halloween remakes b/c they were probably his biggest budget films, which means the more "hands-on" studio producers were going to be. I think if he got a bigger budget for LOS or more time, or both, it wouldn't have been as mysterious as it was presented. I don't think he got to tell his whole story, whether it's suppose to be a sequel or just an extra 10 minutes of film in the original.

reply

A big disappointment for sure. I'm shocked =(

reply

Sadly I have to agree. After months of hype and press, 'Zombie's most *beep* up movie to date/ever'. And a fantastic trailer by the way... There wasn't really anything that controversial about it.. A shame as all the elements were there, set, cast, crew.

The 'Give Daddy some sugar' scene from House 1000... I was expecting that turned up to 11...

It's a simple question Doctor, would you eat the Moon if it were made of ribs?

reply

Big disappointment. Awful acting, bad shaky cam n no character development.

Dear mr Zombie. House of 1000 Corpses had a philosophy. It was down hill after that. I gave this movie a 5 is because Malcolm McDowell was in it and he looked bored too. The only thing that might have been interesting is the voyeur angle to the movie. The audience watches characters watching people being tortured or killed as they watch each other die.... but that's been done before anyways. This is just another mediocre slasher movie.

Get with it, Mr Zombie, or you and I are through.
