Rob zombie master of horror?

Be a die hard zombie fan. His movies aren't the worse but are a bit over rated because of his cult following and theatrical stage performances. Just because his stage name has zombie in it and sings in a rock band doesn't mean he's a master of horror.

Zombie is his actual surname; he had it legally changed. I wouldn't call him overrated; many people hate him because of his Halloween movies. I think his films are hit-or-miss, but I'm looking forward to 31 because he said it was similar to The Devil's Rejects (his best movie IMO).

"I'm so happy dancing while the Grim Reaper cuts, cuts, cuts, but he can't get me!"

reply

Legally or not his name is zombie which seems to attract a certain cult following to assume he is everything horror. I hear people say all the time "of course it's gunna be a crazy horror movie, it's rob zombie." Like that means *beep* to the film industry. Devils rejects was his best work yet I agree. Had some memorable parts for sure. I understand he is just as equally hated. To me it's all about the final product put out.

Don't relaly think it has anything to do with his name being "Zombie" Based on your example above its going to be a "crazy horror movie, its rob zombie...." because Zombie has a track record of horror/gore movies. I don't think it has anything to do with his name.

The name RobZombie adds to people's perception of him and his work. When you hear that name, you automatically think one thing and that is gore/horror. When you hear the name George Lucas, whats the 1st thing that comes to mind? Star Wars....right? Same with Spielberg /Coppola /Kubrick....etc.

It's called name recognition.

reply

What TheIcon2 meant was that the name Zombie has nothing to do with it. Yes name recognition is powerful, but if he had made the movies under the name Rob Smith, then the recognition would still be there, it has nothing to do with his surname being Zombie. That would be like saying George Lucas would be more famous if his name was George Skywalker, or George Romero was George... um... Zombie I guess!

Lol ok

I don't think he's a master of horror, but I can't believe that this film has an score of 11 in metacritic. It looks like it could be a fun film.

reply

IMO His films are great but his music sucks. (I mean his NEWER stuff, not his awesome, older music)

He has one good movie (Devil's Rejects), one okay movie (House of 1000 Corpses), and a handful of terrible movies.

He's a master of disappointment maybe, but not of horror.

I fail to agree. Halloween 2007 is still one of the worst films I've ever seen in the theater.

If you think Halloween 2007 is one of the worst films you've seen in the cinema - you really need to get out more, not a classic by any stretch of the imagination )or even very good) but surely you must have seen a lot worse!

reply

I go to the movies every week. I can name a handful that were worse, but that's out of hundreds.

Rob Zombie?Master of horror?Maybe so.But it doesnt mean he is any good.It just that the market of todays horror movies is *beep* watched most of his films & thought what a load of crap.I watched 31 & thought what a load of crap. The characters i did not care for.Nobody cares for elderly people. He would have done better remaking Texas Chainsaw Massacre.Adding a bus load of sexy, young youths & adding sex & grisly horror into it.A subject that was taboo at the time the original film was made.

Exactly and the first half of Halloween was pretty ok.

TDR is his masterpiece. 31 is terrible.

I was a massive fan of White Zombie (the band, not the movie), but as far as a director his films are middling at best in the pantheon of horror.

Fulci and Argento, Carpenter, Polanski, Raimi, Clive Barker, Roth, Craven, Del Toro, Peter Jackson, Castle, Cronenberg. Those are masters of horror. Zombie is more passionate about it than he is talented at it.

It's too much of the same thing over and over again. That inbred cast, the same cringe-worthy dialogue that might sound cool to a 12 year old, and recycled tropes throughout. It get's tiring. I enjoyed 'House of 1000 Corpses' but since then (with the exception of his Halloweens) he's just been trying to re-brand it.

We've met before, haven't we?
