hmm so instead of just cutting back..they cancel the series? Me thinks it has more to do with the expensive budget and the quality of what came between the sex scenes.
Though to know for sure I would have to watch it, and I am not sure its an interesting enough show for me to squeeze in. I hadn't even realized it had been around long enough to have a third season.
That's odd because in this interview with George Blagden he went into filming knowing it would be the final season:

So if it was cancelled it was based on season 2. Seriously cancelled for the sex scenes? If so that is too weird.
