The trailer was hard to watch with all the cussing. I don’t mind a few in the midst of action during the film, but this was cringeworthy in the isolated clips of the preview. Now my friends (we saw it on YouTube) refuse to see it with me and I was hyped because I and my buddies love Predator since we were little kids.
I think the dialog is just poorly written. I've got no problems with swearing in films but it appears to be just used as a prop here. The mum joke in the trailer made me cringe - I hope that's not the best they have to offer.
You can take out any of the memorable smack talking scenes from the original (want some candy?), put them side to side with the isolated scene from this new one, and the difference is... none. I know that statement will make certain fans of the original feel aghast (again, want some candy?) but the mom joke is in the same damn vein.
Aware... I am. I was merely having fun with that quote. 😏 The point is, although the swearing in the new one may come off as forced - FYI we’re basing this on a small clip - I would hardly call the classic swearing scenes in the original mature. Creative? As far as shiit talking goes, maybe.
But I just knew there would be complaints regarding the dialogue and violence in this new one no matter what (“not enough F bombs”, “it’s excessive”, “it’s cheap”, “they’re not even trying”, etc). And I can only imagine what the reactions would have been like if this had gotten the feared PG-13 rating instead (“it’s all about the money”, “PC strikes again!”, “gaaaaaaah!”). You just can’t win with pissy people.
So with that said, if Black and the writers went out of their way to secure an R rating, then props them! If the film is good... then great! Though I understand why some are not feeling it at all (not those that criticize everything these days and feel confident that they can put together a superior film), first let’s wait and see how the final product turns out. Simply fun and brutal? I’ll take that over a joyless ride.
surely theres an easy way to get adult rating without multiple clumsy swears. I dont know the rules personally but im guessing , A brief pussy shot maybe?
Or if its 3 F*** , just have one guy do it in one line...
....or just have the predator do some Mortal Kombat finish move on someone .
Based on the latest clips, the Predator/s looks like he will go full Mortal Kombat.. or should I say full Predator... on his prey (maybe on his own advanced hunter, too).
Shane Black’s comments in regards to the tone, themes and structure of the new movie have made it abundantly clear that he wants to completely honor the original, and if you ask me it does appear like this will be the case. So yeah, I feel confident this earned an R rating for good reasons.
Yea like why is every one saying "Shut the Fuck up". It sounded so contrived when mckena says "what the hell are you" then says "STFU" like what dramatic effect was the script going for at that point.
so you like Predator, you know that film where they strip people of there skin, and you have issues with this current film having Cussing? Well shit, this has got to be the most pissy thread i have ever witnessed.
Its not the cussing its that the profanity is so contrieved. Most of the time people cuss to emphasis the emotion people are experiencing like "Oh shit!", "What the fuck was that!" but in this movie it was like "Shut the fuck up! No why don't you shut the fuck up!, Hey both of you shut the fuck up, No man fuck you for telling me to shut the fuck up. I don't have to shut the fuck up". No the dialog wasn't actually that bad but it was getting there.
Yea like how they showed a ton of gore, a ton of cussing but some how Olivia Munn's tits dodged the camera. It was like actually awkward how unatural the camera was to avoid them. They should have cut the decontamination scenes cause it was so obvious they were dodging her.
