Not usually a hater, but I did not enjoy this movie

Of course it's just a personal opinion, but I did not like this movie at all. I didn't hate it either, but I don't see the praise on this one. I am never a hater of anything. I am not a homophobic or a "transgender-phobic" either. I love indie films, few I don't. I loved Enemy and Only God Forgives, but didn't enjoy Under the Skin. I know my film taste isn't the interest of anyone but just pointing out that I appreciate all films as long as effort or message is projected. I can see a lot of devotion on this one but I just can't see the entertainment in it. Maybe it's because I'm not from L.A. or America (hence the ignorance). I just need some perspectives.

I concur. I do not think your reservations are unjustified. I am American and gay. I found it quite disturbing that anyone considered this a comedy. I have known characters like those in the film in real life. Their lives were far from amusing. Stay skeptical.
