Refreshingly different
Started watching S1 since it was free on Amazong Prime (thru 6/30/20). I admit the first couple episodes didn’t strike me as standouts - seemed to be a story that’s been done many times; brilljant savant-ish genius consultant comes up with insights/evidence the cops never picked up on & solves the case. Struck me as VERY much like the old series “Monk”. Anothar that came to mind is “The Mentalist”. Ho hum...
But as I got to know the characters, my opinion of the show went up, way up. And there’s a delight in watching a show that’s not from Hollywood, there are small things that happen and you find yourself thinking “Wow, they really do things differently over there”. But I haven’t been able to suss out where “over there” is. Could be Germany? Austria? Switzerland? The additional information tab doesn’t say.
(Update: found the info on IMDB, it’s Belgium)
Warning: the dialogue is the original track, with English subtitles. A viewer has to be capable of reading them quickly before they get replaced by the next one. Also, I’ve made heavy use of Amazon Prime’s Rewind 10 Seconds feature so I get the subtitle on the first viewing, and then actually watch it on the second pass.
Not for everyone, particularly if you’re not a speed reader, but if you’re in the mood for something refreshingly different, you might want to give it a try. I’m currently finishing up S1, and I hope Amazong gets subsequent series.
