HOw much do you think he made during the run of the show. Not nearly as much as you probably think. Besides, Dustin hasn't exactly worked much since the show.

shareYeah, that's chump change for someone who was on a series for 4 years. According to wikipedia, there are 118 episodes between the original show, invluding Good Morning Miss Bliss, and the College Years one season. Now, if the 2 million doesn't include earnings for the two movies or his work on The New Class he made an average of 17K per episode. If it does include all that its around 7K. That is a lot more than a lot of people make but 2 million just isn't a lot of money, especially if he bought/financed stuff under the assumption that he would keep working.
shareAnother thing to keep in mind that $2 million probably didn't account for taxes, manager's fees (maybe 10% on up), attorney's fees, etc. I don't know if Dustin ever claimed his father stole his money, but there are laws in place to make sure that stuff doesn't happen. In the past, child actors (Gary Coleman, etc.) had their $$ stolen/spent by their parents, but after that era, the laws were supposed to protect them. Although I know Aaron Carter's mother stole his $$ in the 2000's and he ended up filing for bankruptcy last year due to owed back taxes to the IRS.
