Anyone who's seen this, do they think Jon Watts has what it takes to make a great Spider-Man movie?
shareI have only seen his previous movie called Clown. It's a decent horror movie considering the low budget.
shareI think it does for sure, surprisingly good movie. The guy knows his stuff, it has some great camera work and all the actors give a superb performance, he's a good director, hope he does a good job on Spidey, though tonally this is completely different to that. I gotta see his other movie too.

I really liked Cop Car despite sections feeling a little too contrived. So I would say yes, except that I really liked Chronicle too, and the superhero movie followup from that director was significantly inferior, so who knows.
shareEnough already, Toby McGuire's Spider man jumped the shark with the 3rd film when the first 2 were way better, then we get 2 films with that other guy now they want a new actor and ANOTHER reboot??? they are doing it too much I am done with it.

shareWhat speaks for the Spider-Man reboot (outside of the director's decent work with Cop Car) is that it's a MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) film. Marvel already knows what story they want told, they know how to handle the characters. Provided Sony (the co-owner of the character movie rights, who produced the previous five Spider-Man films) don't get too much to say and messes it up, I think it should be a decent film.
Fantastic Four (directed by Josh Trank who made Chronicle) was produced by Fox (I think) and it seems they are far more clueless when it comes to handling such a franchise than Marvel is. Afterall, Marvel has been doing these things for 50 years, just in comic book form.
As long as they replace enough white characters with black people, that seems to be the big factor, making sure your Marvel movie isn't "too white".
HELP AGGRAVATE THE STATUS QUO, VOTE AGAINST EVERY INCUMBENT YOU SEE ON A BALLOT.
