I think he means your supposed to see a parallel between the cop amd the kids. I may have missed it but why weren't the kids in school? If they were playing hooky maybe the parallel is that they slipped school which they're not supposed to do. And he being an officer isn't supposed to be doing bad things.
I was hoping the plot would be more developed like finding out the cop was killing criminals for the betterment of society or something like that.
They made it clear that they were running away from home. Whether or not it was a school day wouldn't really matter.
