The sheriff definitely panicked. Why waste the coke and valuable time flushing it and not just get it out of the house and hide it elsewhere? Also, while in a giant hectic mess he decides to snort some? The last thing he needed was to be wired up even worse.

Because the screenplay writer or whoever murdered that script was a complete IDIOT!
